Holiday running

I will be on the Norfolk coast next week and looking forward to a few runs on the coastal path - hopefully fairly flat (I've never been to Norfolk but I believe it's not like NW Scotland).

I had got to 8k a couple of weeks ago then did 5k Race for Life and since then another 5.6k last weekend. Do I need to start with the 10% rule again, eg run 6+k next time then build up? Or if I feel ok should I carry on to 8k or so? Previous niggles (knee and blister) are currently fine, thankfully! πŸ˜„

Norfolk isn't flat, especially at the coast. The flatness is a myth perpetuated by the tourist board ;-) However, it is beautiful, especially at the coast.

I can't comment on the 10% rule because I've been doing the B210k programme and it seems to be all over the place with regards distance... or that could just be me and the weather.

Have a lovely holiday and enjoy Norfolk's undulating inclines.

It depends what your total weekly mileage has been the last few weeks. The 10% rule doesn't apply only to the long run but to the TOTAL weekly distance.

If your long run is 6K in week one and the other two are 5K's then you could run 7K in week 2 and 8K in week 3. Are you asking if you could go from 6-8 in one week? Personally I wouldn't but that's just me as I'm very cautious with my distance increasing and for the sake of a week I wouldn't risk it.

Enjoy Norfolk πŸ™‚

Thanks, I'll try some gentle shorter distances πŸ˜„

If you are running on a strange new route you will run slower so,by dint of that you Might allow yourself a bit of leeway to run further. It won't hurt if you stop now and then to take in the sights, take pics, have a drink etc

Have a lovely time. Run on the seafront or beach if poss πŸ˜ƒ

Lots of good advice form Irishprincess and misswobble ! An esplanade run, by the sea, sounds terrific..:)

My first post IC run was on the Esplanade here in Cricceth... very flat... no hills or beach runs allowed yet! Hurrah for the no hills rule :)

Have a super, super time Joy... enjoy!!

You say "not like NW Scotland" - do you live in Scotland? I have never been to Norfolk (well maybe once but don't remember the landscape!), I also thought it was flat...ish πŸ˜‰. Enjoy your runs. Looking forward to your reports!

Thanks Sue. I am Scottish but have lived in south of England for nearly 30 years. Have had lots of lovely holidays in NW Scotland especially back in my hillwalking days long ago! πŸ˜„
