I am back home after an enjoyable ( if somewhat stressful) driving tour around the UK. We did about 2500 miles over this period - and were basically "full on" for almost the whole time we were there. My running plans did not eventuate as planned. I had intended to run most mornings for around 30 minutes to keep my fitness levels up and to do 5 parkruns. But neither of these two things happened. I did manage to get a few enjoyable runs in - a run along the sea at Blackpool, a couple of nice canalside runs, and a few "country lane" type runs and one parkrun ( my 101'st)- but even this minuscule effort came to a halt when I injured myself during a run into the Cathedral precinct of Wells. I misplaced my right foot onto a gutter edge (instead of the road) when transitioning from a footpath to cross a road and badly went over on my right foot - with subsequent lots of bruising/swelling. I have been able to walk ever since - but only slowly and painfully. Don't think I will be running for quite a while.
I did the Fountains Abbey parkrun - beautiful place -- but planned visit to Strathclyde had to be cancelled because of weather, Shrewsbury pr was cancelled due to a rock concert and visits to Salisbury and Cambridge pr's were cancelled because of my injury.
So - am back home - a couple of KG's heavier- and cant run. I am considering joining a local gym to do some weight training - more or less just for something to keep me occupied physically while the foot repairs.
What do others do when they can't run????
