Evening all,

Hope you are all enjoying weekend

Had an 8k run planned on my ASICS 10k plan but never settled into it and after 4.4k I gave up!!!

I'm really upset with myself but does this happen to anyone else??

Cheers

Rocks

This has happened to me a couple of times on my 10k plan. One day I was aiming for 6 miles and had so many niggles and mental block that I stopped at 3.8 miles rather than risk injury. I was hugely disappointed in myself at the time. It happened again only a couple of weeks ago when the temperature suddenly increased and I found that hard running so decided on a 3.5 mile instead to climatise. So many things affect our running, we are not machines. A plan is just a plan and can be adjusted based on life around you. Don't give up, it will all work out over the course of your training.

Cheers yes I wasn't looking forward to today so maybe not in the right frame of mind

Sure it will be ok!!!

It will be fine, you got out and did a run that is the main thing. You are still maintaining running legs even if you didn't do the distance you wanted to. There is next time where everything will click into place. The mind very much influences our run as I have found out.

Yes it's happened to me a couple of times recently . Just one of those things , although I do understand your disappointment but please don't let it get you down .

Everyone has bad runs now and again , even Olympian athletes !

You will be fine :-) xxx

I think it happens to most people every now and again. I like the phrase that someone coined of "chuck it in the f*ck it bucket" and move on. The next run will be different xx

As others have said, we all get runs like this from time to time. There are a myriad of reasons why it may have happened so best to park it and move on - hope your next run is better.🙂

Every time I run it's a kind of challenge to myself - 'will I do it? Will I give up?' Every time I give up I kind of beat myself up a little bit over it. Which is what spurs is on to try and do better next time.

In short - the not succeeding/beating yourself up a bit thing is the road to success. 😎

Pretty sure it happens to everyone at some point. Even when running shorter distances. Best advice I've had is to take things easy for a few days, maybe even take a total break and go back to it after.

Ha ha - 'does it happen to anyone else?' :D Sorry - I don't mean that to sound mean at all, it's just that I honestly don't think I know anyone who has been running for a while who hasn't had one of these runs! But it doesn't matter. You still ran. Yes, okay, it was shorter than you planned. Don't let it affect your confidence though. Sometimes you can work out what affected your run - you weren't hydrated enough, you hadn't eaten properly, you weren't recovered from your previous run, you're stressed or worried about something and it carries over to your run, you have a niggly knee that you're protecting, the weather is really humid and your breathing is affected - and sometimes it's just one of those things.

Go again. It will be better :)

I think i have quit twice but i was injured, with a calf problem. Knowing it was not healed i had to stop. Tried it again a full week later and I had to pull up again.

Other than that I've not given up on a run. I can always salvage something. If I've got changed to run then i'm not going home til I've done it. You can always just walk when it goes bandy and then start running again when you've had a breather.
