I know it's only a small problem but does anyone else have a problem with a runny nose whilst running?

Yes but I put it down to hayfever! I always have a tissue stuffed in the top of my running leggings lol.

Yes ! Never suffered before but had a cold at the beginning of the year and ever since then I've needed guttering under my nose every time I've run ! Drives me mad and I've had to resort to running with a tissue in my hand at all times. Would love to know if anyone has a solution?

I use my sweat bands - Gonna market them as 'snotbands' lol

Me too - Anniemurph wrote once that she always goes out with a hanky pinned to her top and I must start doing that rather than have tissues stored all over the place.

Yes I use a sweatband around my wrist , comes in really handy for a quick wipe . I cant do snot rockets , I nearly blew my brains out of my nose the first time I tried it ! :-D xxx

Please don't anyone do a poll of this question and then Venn diagram the results with the people who admitted only washing their running kit once a week or less.

I get it really bad in winter, the cold makes my eyes stream and consequently my nose run. Most unpleasant. Not so bad at the moment, unless I get blinded by the morning sun and my eyes start to water. Tissues, sweat bands and "snot rockets" (which I have definitely not mastered!) are the solution.

Short runs I just sniff up. Long runs I carry a tissue

Snot rockets? Spitting.....Eeeuurrgggghhhh! An absolute no, no, disgusting.......take your bodily fluids home with you and dispose of appropriately.....🤧

That's as bad as irresponsible dog owners not cleaning up after their pooches......

Where is it you run, exactly?

I concede the snotrocket is inappropriate behaviour if on the treadmill in the gym but on woodland trails the standards of decorum are slightly different.

Exactement! No worse than bird spit/hedgehog poo etc. A carefully placed snot rocket (I told you I was an expert) in the grass verge isn't going to hurt anyone!

Yes .. I've not got a cold and I live in a hot climate - but yup don't understand why I get a runny nose - it's probably something to do with breathing at a guess - we need a doctor to explain right?! 🤗

Yes, think a lot of us do, I usually just have the odd sniff and put up with it and its not too bad, carry a tissue or use a sleeve if you have one on!😊

Yes, my nose streams and streams. Ha ha, take a tissue? I take at least one per KM planned. Often that's not enough....recently I've been using Beconase, it seems to be helping, but that said I've not run much lately.

It's called exercise induced rhinitis. In other words, you're "allergic" to exercise!

Welcome to the club :)

My nose and eyes stream when I'm running. I used to take a couple of tissues stuck down my bra but the problem with that is they're usually soggy with sweat when I get them out to use them 😬 My friend recommended taking a large cotton handkerchief instead and that's much better.

Buffs are handy for this in the winter, but no use now the weather is getting better.

It's not a problem I rather think it's a good indicator. I always take a huge hankie on my runs and blow often. Better out than in 🙂 Don't keep swiping at your nose with a wrist band or sleeve (heaven forbid 😃) Cos if you do it gets very sore! Stop and blow your snoz as needed

Tissue! I'm talking thumping great bath towel 😃

My husband now has no big hankies. I stole them. They are mine, all mine 🤗

I suffer from rhinitis at regular points throughout the year, finding it to be at its worst during periods of cooler/wet weather. I won't go into the particulars over the symptoms but they're both annoying and irritating.

Was referred to a consultant, who provided a nasal spray (which was rubbish), a little contraption to perform salt rinses (which aren't pleasant). He also explained that worst case would be to drill extra holes in the cheekbones, allowing sinuses to drain, but also explained that it wouldn't necessarily treat the cause of inflammation within the nasal passage (preventing sinuses from draining in the first place).

As such, I can also suffer from a stuffy nose, particularly when running in cooler outdoor temperatures. I've put the stuffiness and congestion down to the cooler air coming into contact with the moist, humid environment inside the nose, something created by increased internal core temperature.

However, I've found that Sudafed nasal spray works instantly to help relieve the congestion and reduce the amount of mucus when running. It also continues to work for a number of hours afterwards.

Yes! I use sweat bands which are colour coordinated with my shoes! They're sufficient when I'm running but I carry tissues for the cool down walk. I've never tried to do a snot rocket and I've no intention of every trying, there are too many people about who could notice a misplaced snot splatter!
