Had got into a nice routine with my running, 2 x 5ks and then 1 longer run at the weekend and feeling very pleased with my progress. And then last week I developed a pain in my foot - it's a sharpish pain on the top of my foot - feels like in my middle metatarsal. I missed my Thursday run last week. I then ran Saturday which was a mistake - my foot was so painful afterwards (not during weirdly)! Since then I've decided to have a week off running and taking regular ibuprofen. This does seem to be working but still the odd twinge. Any advice would be gratefully received. Will a week off be long enough? I really hope so as I'm missing my running so much! Thanks in advance x

Ice is excellent in helping ease inflammation and pain. Play ice over the painful area as often as poss. According to my chemist I buffed etc only work when the muscles are at rest, so,raking them last thing at night before sleep is advised. They take a lengthy time for the anti inflammatory aspect to kick in too.
You will have to rest it, and hopefully it will be ok. If it's no better after a week you may need to see the doc.

Feet and legs are temperamental at times. Right now, I have a twangy knee - not injured as such but a little uncomfortable, so I will try a very slow 5 tomorrow on grass and see how it goes. The other issue I have is a bunion, a small one but that can be achy. Knowing when to rest is tricky, no one else can tell us, hope it recovers quickly
