10k and up....

I am 57, 2 stone overweight and took up running last June with c25k. I graduated in September and am a regular park runner. PB 26.57. I have run 2 practice 10k and 1 10k race. All under 60mins. I have the Bournemouth Bay run 10k in 2 weeks and have just signed up for the Great South run 10 miles in October. My goal is the March 2018 Coniston 14. I can't believe that I waited so long to take up running as it is doing so much for me in so many ways. I still mentally pinch myself halfway through every run as I can't quite believe that I can do it. The c25k forum has been an inspiration and I'm sure this will be no different.

Brilliant! The Great South Run is fantastic - you will love it! I hope to do it again this year.😀 Good luck as you build up that distance, sounds as though all is going great!!🙂

Thanks. Really enjoying it. Just hoping to avoid injury.

Just listen to your body and increase distance carefully - sure you'll be fine ☺

You're doing so well! Those times are excellent. Just looked up your Bournemouth and coniston races, they both look great. I did my 1st 10k race in Bournemouth but it was the marathon festival in Oct 2014,and I've done the GSR the last 2 years, you'll enjoy it, great atmosphere and we usually have a c25k meet up too! Good luck and well done! 😊

I noticed the posts about the c25k meet at the last gsr. Will definitely try and get involved this year. Btw how did you find out about the Larmer Tree race?

A lot of people from the island went last year! If you Google white star running all their races are on there! They are good fun!😆

This is the list that a lot of the local club runners refer to: westbournerc.com/p/upcoming...

The Upton House summer time trials are great, as is the Holton Lee relay event. My wife is race director at the latter and I process the results so perhaps I'm a little biased! Other events I can recommend are the Poole Festival of Running (5k and 10k in and around Poole park but not the same course as the parkrun) and definitely the Bournemouth Marathon Festival. There's also new parkrun coming to East Dorset so look out for that!!!

Thanks for that. Some great ideas - just have to work out which ones I can fit in!

Great post! So many folks here found better health and fitness just by doing the programme. Becoming a runner after having never been one previously is an awesome feeling isn't it 🙂 Racing is such fun too. Who knew 😀

Bournemouth! Not been there for ages. I must be due 😁

Come and run the 10k at the marathon festival in October. Or perhaps the HM!

Just looked at the Web site. There are still 2 days to sign up for the Bournemouth Bay run a week Sunday!

My first 5k 'race' was at the marathon festival last October. The night race. Loved it. Perhaps there should be a South Coast mini bus to the Coniston 14 next year. My brother and a group of friends have been doing it for 2 decades. He just won't believe it if I make the start line let alone finish!
