Success with first 10k race πŸ˜€

A week or two ago I was worrying and wittling about whether I would be ready for this 10k. Even today I was muttering to myself that I don't ever have to do another race if I don't want to ,ever ever! 😬My youngest son and girlfriend came along for support and as I was muttering my son said 'like you always say to us Mum, just try your best.' Well it ended up being better than I thought and I might be tempted to try more races from now on! Everyone was clapping and encouraging us all along both fast and slow. I managed to shave 2 minutes off my PB! Yippee! The course was flat throughout and I think that is the reason I improved today. I always have a hill usually in the first 2k when running on my own but I think always having to do hills made this run today so much easier. I took it easy to start with then had enough energy in the last 2k to ramp it up a bit!

I would just say to anyone building up to 10k, keep going steady and you will get there. I graduated nearly a year ago and have had to take it easy due to injury and job busyness. On average I ran about twice a week throwing in longer runs here and there. Park run certainly helped me with getting used to running with others and not being too worried about the majority of people running faster than me! I could barely run round my garden a year ago and never thought I could run 5k let alone 10.

Yay to 10k! Yay to running in general and how it helps you achieve what sometimes you think is impossible, how it makes you stronger and fitter, how it gets you out in the fresh air and makes you feel alive! πŸŽˆπŸ˜€πŸŽˆ

Yeah! A huge well done to you, that sounds brilliant. Doing hills has obviously worked magic and 2 minutes off your PB is just amazing! πŸ€—

10k is a great distance, you have time to settle in and find a pace that's comfortable for you, and getting a new PB is great !

Fantastic! Well done:) you must be so happyπŸ˜€ May I ask if you took any walking breaks, only as I'm doing a 10k in a month and am fully expecting to take a couple of walking breaks and wondering if you did, and how you felt about it (if you did) I'm nervous about the 10k!!

Thanks Natasha. I managed to run all the way but that's because I got to that stage in my training. There were lots of people who took walk breaks at my end of the field and they were fine. There was no one dressed up as teddy bears or whatever and it seemed like quite a 'serious' race. However everyone was really supportive and I didn't feel at all intimidated. You will be fine, just enjoy it and soak up the atmosphere and just do your 'own race' 😊

Thanks...one of the main reasons I signed up for a recent 5k was so I could suss out the 10k runners, was relieved to see a few not quite superhuman runners doing it.....obviously not meaning to be judge mental:) congrats again!!
