I have entered the Great South Run again this year (23 Oct), and have also chosen to run for a charitable cause again. This year I selected Cancer Research UK, for reasons personal to me.
When I was In my early 20's I suffered Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, but with the treatment of radio & chemotherapy it has allowed me to survive this dreadful illness and lead a normal life. Unfortunately I have had family and friends who haven't been so lucky and have passed away, I feel any help I can give to aid research for this worthy cause I will do so willingly. I know this is a nationally recognised and publicised charity, but I believe we all know of someone who has been touched by some form and degree of this illness. If there is anyone that would like to help me support this worthwhile charity, i know it would be greatly appreciated.
After signing up to the charity I have now received my sponsorship info and starter pack from CRUK and like the big kid that I am, just had to try on my running top to make sure it fits (posing in the garden). CRUK provides everything necessary to get me going, but I thought in addition I could use the photo to make up a poster and see if can get it put up on display around the area where I live, hopefully attract some sponsors. If anyone would be kind enough to sponsor me, it can be done by either giving it personally to me or by using my JustGiving page;
JustGiving.com/Frank-Parsons3 where donations are securely transferred directly to the Cancer Research UK charity itself. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. ๐

It's great you are doing that Frank, such a worthy cause. My friend and chief fire officer where I worked had that illness and didn't survive, he was just 60, and like others, I have lost some friends to cancer, my sister in law is battling bone cancer at the moment, and is doing very well, getting on with life.. sorry about the downer, just great you are doing the run!๐
Thank you Chris that very kind of you. Just call me Percy Throwup, I'm not very green fingered but ok at digging holes and cutting grass! ๐ Have a great weekend you pop picker! xxx
No wonder you've chosen this as your charity Frank. It does amazing work. That's a lovely photo and, spookily enough, your garden looks like a friend's we visited today ๐
Lovely garden! Donation made for you Frank. I've had friends and family who have fought and won and others who have sadly lost the fight so this is one thats close to my heart.
Thank you very much Noaky that is very kind of you. Sadly this is an illness that seems to have touched most people in some shape or form. Have a great weekend! ๐ I'm off out soon as I'm volunteering at parkrun this morning. Thanks again. x
Just seen this Frank! A great cause. Like many, I have seen people close to me survive but also have lost loved ones to cancer too. Will pop across to sponsor when money allows ๐ฎ๐ฎ and wish you lots of luck in your training. I am also considering running this one too, now that my niggles have settled๐
Thank you Sandra that's very kind. I hope you can manage to run in this event, it is very well supported! There are a few of us from c25k who run it last year and I believe they are again this year, we all meet up and have a natter before the start, it's nice to meet other runners from this friendly group. Glad the niggles are under control for you. ๐
