Running a gift of life for life.

Lots of important stuff needs to be addressed, and can certainly get in the way of being singularly focused on my running passion.

This year will be virtually gone for me as mentioned in my previous post 2019 planning.

Nothing has altered basically to my two identified goals,HIIT mitchondria replacement and continuous running.

I hope over the last two months of this year I can at least maintain 20km/week to keep me ticking over.

Following my MOT/ results/ review I am pleased that I have agreed to raise my statin level from 10mg to 20 mg, and found out to reduce my risk I should be more correctly on the max of 80mg. It makes me more determined to shed a final stone when in the new year I get back to 50-60 km/week.I certainly proved to myself at that level the lbs just disappear.

I want to do something in 2019 for three charities, macular society, bowel cancer and diabetes.Working on dividing my annual distance between these three charities.

I have spent a little time over on the cholestral community trying to get myself some reassurance on my medication choices.More than happy with the support of my GP and where I am at.

As a side I am confused by the huge disparity that exists between tested medication, side effect views, untested alternatives, etc.,I am not a medic and need things to be simple, so what is not to like about tested medication that basically reduces risk.๐Ÿค”

After all you have got to be living to run.๐Ÿค”

Running is a gift we give to ourselves, it is life giving, we know exercise is mandatory really, and we know there are consequences if we do not,we are responsible for our own health, and for me now it is for the rest of my life.

Running is the golden thread that binds us and the forum together.I know our situations are uniquely different, but here on the running forum they are more shared and harmonious in my opinion.

Wishing you all well with your choices and journeys.

So much to agree with there Tbae - and especially that wonderful "golden thread" you describe, that draws us all together on these running forums. ๐Ÿ™‚A quiet sanctuary to share our passion for something that in a very uncertain world, we can have control over and something that improves our physical health and emotional wellbeing. I run because I can - and for those that can't. Good luck in supporting your charities - you are a star!โญ๏ธ

Iโ€™m not surprised the pounds just disappear at 50-60km per week, Tbae - thatโ€™s quite some distance! ๐Ÿ˜ณโค๏ธ

I think one problem with opinions on things like side effects of medicines, and even efficacy of medicines vs alternatives, is that we are all unique individuals so our experiences of both will differ... Often confusing, but itโ€™s also good that we arenโ€™t all identical clones! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ

When I was labelled by the NHS as a โ€œchronic pain patientโ€, I read some fascinating books about pain and medicines in general, which really highlighted the fact that the best medicine we can ever hope for is really to find something completely harmless, and not even necessarily pharmaceutically active at all, that triggers our bodies to heal themselves via the โ€œplacebo effectโ€ (a very genuine effect that can help with very genuine problems). So in someways finding our own placebo always seemed to be the Holy Grail of medicines to me...๐Ÿค”โค๏ธ Maybe a far reach for more complex conditions, but fascinating to realise what the human body can be capable of. ๐Ÿ˜ƒโค๏ธ

Running and the running forums have been the biggest change in my life this year and both have been massively positive, I have never made new years resolutions because I have lacked commitment, but maybe just maybe for 2019 I might have a few running ones that I can really go for, great post Tbae

Hi the Wildrover, Go Doncaster Rovers and you.

I came across on the forum a post that Tomasโ€™s plan for 2017 was 2017km.

Then of course the fantastic Jancanrun, is just about to complete 2018km for Alzheimerโ€™s and her pops.

Yes lots more so inspiring and humbling stories and wonderful

achievements.

Sandra says, she runs because she can and for those that canโ€™t.That is โœจ

I lost my father to bowel cancer at 58 and my sister at 64 to diabetes/ through pancreatic failure, no age๐Ÿค”, and I am just so blessed to have found running and this forum at 75.

Atb with your journey, Berks, you are such a busy man, so fitting in this running malarkey cannot always be easy, but my it has its

place and benefits in our lives like nothing else.

Run for life by running for our lives. As in โ€œ GET FIT IN 6MINSโ€.

You must watch that Berks,if you have missed it by chance.๐Ÿค”

Lovely post, and I am feeling the lovely glow of the golden thread that binds us.... I so agree with what you are saying about health. It is only when we take responsibility and control of our own health that we can move forward. In my experience ( as a nurse and also as someone who was poorly for over a year) there is far too much passivity and reliance on believing others are responsible for our health. Its only when we take control we can change the outcomes.... well done you, and I hope the new dose of statins helps.

My youngest daughter Juju is in nursing like you.She is out of hours matron in palliative care at Guys and St Thomasโ€™s.

Take good care of you

A thought provoking post and full of things we are all able to relate too.

That.... Golden Thread of Ju's.. the feeling of support and even love from all our faceless friends..it is tangible.

The feeling of togetherness, that is ever present on the forums......

" Friendship, is born in that moment,

when one person says to another. What! You too.... ? "

How many times have we felt or said that.. running on our own, but never alone.

I hope you continue to make sound progress and continue to enjoy happy and healthy runs...thank you x
