I'd love to know how many of you drink a cup of tea or coffee (or other caffeinated product) no more than an hour before the start of a run. Is it possible Realfoodieclub that this can be added to one of the forums at some point please? Perhaps the response boxes could be: always, usually, sometimes, rarely, never.

Me. I often (but not always) have a cuppa before I run. Definitely have one when I get in though.
I tend to drink coffee before circuits - I'm convinced it helps me keep up with the young-uns!
Always tea and always before a run. I need all the help I can get to push me through that door.
Yes always 1 cuppa tea,not too big big! no more til afterwards or my "i will need the loo "psychological problem kicks in!!!! 😕😆
Never I'm too lazy to get up enough time before a run to make 1 but in my defence I do go out at 5.30am
That's what I have been doing for the past six weeks or so and I believe my performance has suffered slightly. Prior to that I got up, had a cup of tea and went out at about 7.30am.
This morning I went back to the old routine and got a PB. Maybe it's the caffeine or maybe it just takes my body a bit longer than I thought to get going.
I don't drink Coffee and only drink decaffeinated tea so doubt it would make much difference to my runs, but a can of red bull on the other hand hmm wonder if I drank a can of that before a run it would give me wings 😱
I usually go out around 6am, it's usually just water but when I've had a coffee I've been faster. I'm also faster when I've gone out later, probably because I'm more awake. My pbs have been on the rare times I've gone out late enough to have eaten and had coffee! I still enjoy going out on empty though
I have black coffee if it's an early morning run, if it's a fit in after work run its just pot luck what I have or more often don't have

One cup of tea, about 45 mins, before I run. My run is usually before 7.30 and never later than 8 a.m.
Never. Gave up coffee about 6 years ago, going cold turkeyband it was HARD, headaches, general body aches and legs shaking like crazy. Felt like a heroin addict on withdrawal, so wouldn't touch that stuff ever again although I liked it and I still like the smell of freshly ground coffee beans. Before a run I have a small glass of water and a big one when I get back. Usually only drink herbal or fruit teas and water these days, very rarely anything else.
Never. I'm still too worried about things sloshing around in my stomach while I run. If I run in the morning it's just on water. If I run in the evening my last coffee will have been about 3 or 4 hours beforehand.
For my Sunday run yes, usually tea, but if I'm feeling sleepy then coffee. Fortunately my run is mostly through an avenue of trees, along the north bank of the Loire, so finding somewhere to pee is not a problem. My sunday run is usually about 22km at the moment so I am equiped with a belt containing too 500ml water bottles, which are empty by the end of the run.

Me! Especially on a morning run, i need coffee to help get me started no matter what I'm doing. Although tbh I've not noticed any difference to when I don't have it before a run. I'm a grumpy bugger if I don't get my coffee in the morning!! 😆
I tend to hydrate during the day with a weak orange squash or just tap water.
I only drink decaf tea anyway so it wouldn't make a difference.
I do like a nice cappuccino as a treat though 😀

I am an early morning runner, normally between 05.30 and 6am start for me so just water before I run as I cant get up an earlier than I already do, after my runs its water straight away and then herbal tea, with raspberry and Echinacea and then some green tea. Other than the caffeine in the green tea I don't have any other caffeine at all!
