Reasons to be better than we were

Final long run done this morning before 10k run/race a week tomorrow, 10.55k 1:11:47 available pace 6:48 ..

Just doing a couple of 3-4k runs in the week to keep my legs ticking over. What an I hoping for from the race, 1 just getting round 2 to enjoy the atmosphere 3 hopefully 65 mins

Really the time doesn't matter to much , it has been a longish road to finally run in a race , fingers crossed my son will be at the finish which means the world to me .

I Really stopped smoking over 2 years ago and started down the road to a better, healthier life so that god willing I will be around longer for him , he is 12 and has special needs and is one special boy to me .

Also it is 2 fingers up to my doc who said i would go back to smoking haha I am stronger than you thought !!

Hi Rob! My two boys were one of the reasons I sought a healthier lifestyle. They are so proud of what I have achieved with my running, and hi-fiving them as I ran around the Great Bristol 10k a few weeks back, made me feel so proud😀 Sounds like you have made massive changes to your lifestyle, and it will be a very special moment when you complete that race next week, and yep, I bet your son will be proud of you too! We push ourselves that extra mile for our kids I think; mine have certainly made me a stronger person. Enjoy your next two shorter runs and have a fab time running that 10k next week. You will be fab🙂!

Thanks Sandraj39 it is true what strength and motivation we can get from our children 😊

It will one heck of a day 😊

You will do it Hidden and good for you, that must have been difficult giving up smoking?

in reply to Mat30

Thanks Mat30 , it felt hard at times but looking back it wasn't as bad as it could have been, like running it is very much a mental challenge .

You've overcome obstacles and worked very hard to get to this race Rob so you are entitled to enjoy every single minute. And how special that your son will be there. A magic memory in the making no doubt.

I can't believe a doctor said that to you. I hope you've seen him/her since and put them straight, oh, and told them you're about to run a 10K race!

You'll be brilliant in the race, I have no doubt. x

in reply to Irishprincess

Thanks IP 😊oh my doc is a real people person 😉i have every intention of telling him 😊

I know, I've been trying to figure out whether the doc was a bit off in his manner or actually very clever. Anyhow great that Rob has proved him wrong!

Maybe that doctor had your number and knew the dissing was what would make you determined to not to start again?! But well done and enjoy your race.

I feel much the same about my own vulnerable young person... but I have to say that my husband's plan to be immortal and work forever isn't sustainable (I say plan... unlike me he is not doing anything which makes longer fitter life likely...)

Thanks GoogleMe

Well done to you on making those changes 😊

Well done Rob. I packed in the fags 6 years ago, best thing I've ever done! Oh, and your doc sounds a complete a**e. Brilliant for proving him wrong.

Good luck with the race.

Aw our lovely Rob, what a fab post , loved it !

Well done on packing the fags in , Ive been packed in for 4 years this September after 30 odd years of smoking 25 a day . It was tough and it took me ages to resist the urge of wrestling someone to the ground if they passed me with a fag in their hand. Ha ha :-)

Your boy is going to be so proud of you ( I'm sure he is already ! ) Will be so lovely to see him at the finishing line for you .

Good Luck, you can do this ! :-) xxx

in reply to poppypug

Awww thanks poppypug ☺ I wasn't quite that bad , close though haha

It will be a very special day 😊 xx

Ha ha well done Steve. I'm literally sticking two fingers up to your doc as well!

I gave up the gaspers and the booze. It's never too late folks!!!!!!!!! Best thing you'll ever do, that and taking up C25k. Life changing stuff it really is

It's so important to be fit and well for our children isn't it. You should be very proud Rob. Happy running to you. Cheers! (cuppa tea raised)

Can't believe I didn't reply to the post when you first wrote it, not_so_slow_rob. Really hope the race went well. You've done yourself and your son proud with everything you've achieved so far, in the face of disbelief form your doc. Getting through the race will be your proof. 🏅

It hasn't been an easy journey for you, what with your injury, but it's been a journey well run. Be proud, my friend, be proud x
