Garmin PBs?

A little question about how Garmin awards PBs - let's say I run 10 K and by fastest 5 K are from 2K-7K will I get a little gold cup? Or if the fastest was 4.5KM - 9.5KM? I assume it is the fastest consecutive 5 K, but is it?

I'm not sure about Garmin because I never look at my stats in there, but I think that's the way Strava and Endomondo work, so it's possibly the same. On Endomondo you can actually see the section that it's measured for the best time eg for the quickest 5k section.

I know my fastest 1k (little gold cup) on Garmin was not a discrete kilometre. None of my splits equalled the time it awarded me.

My 5k pb is always at Parkrun so I couldn't judge from that!

I think it is the fastest consecutive 5k. My fastest 1k doesn't match any of my 1k splits.

Garmin Connect does however record my 5k PB at the moment as 4 seconds higher than Strava (to which it's linked)... So if I'm running 5k I will always try and switch my Forerunner off as soon as I reach 5k.

I believe that is correct... but one little quirk I found was that you need to do just over a 5k or 10k distance to record a PB. I once did had a 5k PB in the bag and stopped my run exactly on 5k and it didn't show up... so now I always go to to 5.1k or 10.1k and then all appears OK.... Not that I'm in the PB market these days :-)

I like to go for 5.01km or Strava doesn't recognise it as a 5k!

Why aren't you in the PB market these days Andy? I was just thinking about you this morning, haven't see you for ages. Are you OK?

Hi Curly.. I'm good thanks... still out there 3 times a week + 1 gym session. Currently training for another HM in March (Bath) Have a 14km training run tomorrow so nice and steady with no PB's planned!! Still trying to keep up the distance over speed.

Still reading all the new posts and its so good to see so many new names offering great advice.

Hope you're still out there enjoying your runs :-)

My Garmin does not pick them out of the middle of a run unfortunately :-(

Ah! So it might be different depending on the model. Mines a forerunner 10 if that helps.

I've never thought about it but now I do its Only ever picked a PB from the start. In fairness though I only really get PB at events or parkrun. I find that extra spurt when other people are around. They always used to tell me at school I was a bit of a daydreamer 😉.

Oh I love daydreaming. It's my fave hobby! I dunno how the garmin awards PB's. I've given up trying to fathom it as it seems a bit random to me

Another question: does it matter if you regularly clear off the info on the actual watch? I am an anal clearer upper, so don't have much sitting on the watch once it's on the computer. I never get PBs! Nor do I expect them really though ...

I don't think it matters, if I understand correctly you can have 14 runs stored then it clears them off from the beginning as you do each new run. I was prompted to update recently, all runs were cleared then anyway x
