Will 5K get easier anytime soon??

Just did parkrun Corby and it was hard going, mud, twigs, wind and a couple of mini hills. I even ran 10k in the week but still find parkrun really hard. Does 5k ever get easy or do we just keep running it faster to keep it a challenge? LOL

If it helps any I still find 5K a real challenge. It's my "normal" distance these days - any less and I feel a bit cheated lol. But I'm still done by the end of it.

I do find that I can go further (just over 10K is my max so far) if I push past the 5K mark but I do still find it a struggle.

I love the feeling afterwards but I do sometimes wonder why I'm doing it during the run. lol.

Like you I'm a fairly new graduate (April) so it might get easier given a bit of time and practise......... I hope! :-)

You're doing great though - keep it up! x

I hope so too but some runs are great, others are still a slog. I have had some good 5k runs and kept going to 6k, then I did a 7.5, even a 10k. Just keeping on!

It depends if you push yourself or not... If you do it will always be hard, if you don't it won't!!! It's a good distance to really go for it though...??!!

Parkrun doesn't get easier if you push for a PB each time. I usually end up pushing myself there, even when I say to myself beforehand "now take this one easy", simply because the atmosphere is infectious and I always end up pushing for the line.

5Ks do get easier though. When you started out in week 1, running for a minute was hard work. Now it's a piece of cake. You'll settle in and soon find 5Ks easier, as long as you don't end up running each one flat out ;)

think cos its 5K you have to go out hard from the start...whereas a 10k you can take it steady for the first mile
