10th 10k , does it get any easier🤗🤗🏃‍♀️

So my 10th , 10k this morning. Breathing was actually not too bad . It's funny the first 5k seem fine then the 3k in the middle seems so hard then the last 2k are fine again. In the middle part my body just feels a bit tired and I do eat well and keep up with the 2-3 litres of water every single day.

I would like to gradually build up more distance but I'm so glad when I've finished the 10k I couldn't imagine having to go further.

So my question, the more 10ks you run do they get better / easier.

On the upside I do feel so good when I finish. Happy running people 🤗🤗

Great effort, 10 x 10k, fantastic. Some are easy some are hard, there doesn't always seem a reason 🤗

I think it does get easier, in my experience. I do find my Monday morning run less easy, because I've haven't run for several days (as I run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). So, I make my Monday run a gentler one, I tell myself to just be happy if I get through it. Like you say, there's always that sense of achievement at the end, as I still wonder to myself each time "Am I really going to run 10K this morning?" as it seems so far removed from when I began C25K six months ago! Which is the great thing I tell myself never to forget, or take for granted.

I do that. I trick my brain into thinking we're just going out for a trot round and then we'll see how we feel. I fall for it every time. 😉

Congratulations on completing 10/10Ks today, I don't know if it gets any easier as I have not ran a 10K since November 2019, only 4 so far for me, I think I will wait for slightly warmer weather before running another 10K, I am doing JuJu's Magic 10, this Wednesday I hope to run 7K as part of that plan and that will also get me to 20K ran altogether for me on the Vitality World Running Cup Healthunlocked team.

I think that you are going to have to slow down on your long run Buddy34. I have just got back into one short quicker run, a 5k plus with hills, and a longer run each week. A new 10k PB was today's reward, but I would not have run at that pace if I were planning to run any further. I separate off pace from distance in my runs whilst I am building up distance. My first ever 10 k was run at 7:30/k from memory.....and I took that sort of pace (to start with at any rate) into the long runs over 10k....so just like all of the other stages of our development ...make sure you make the new distance and forget about speed on that run. Worked for me anyway.👍

Whoop whoop! That’s a good pace you were going at, too. I FINALLY took everyone’s advice this morning and slowed down by 45+ seconds per km, and oh my goodness, the difference was amazing. Bagged the 7K of Magic10 fairly painlessly. I’m now going to be one of those irritating just-converted-seen-the-light types and say: I don’t know what your regular pace is, but are you slowing down for the longer runs?! 😉

I honestly don't think I'm going fast but I will try to slow down . Maybe try putting a pacer on my garmin and see if it helps 😊👍

Hi Buddy34. I completed my first 10k just after you and have only done one other. My times were 1.07.38 for the first and 1.08.55 for the second so similar to you. I didn’t feel like the pace was too fast.

I wonder if it’s simply like all runs ie some 5k runs can feel so hard and others really not too bad.

You have stormed ahead over the winter in a most impressive way.

Why not try doing your next one at a pace as slow as you can like I did today and see if it feels any better.

Blimey, that's a good pace! No wonder you're finding it hard going.

It depends on your goals really. On my long plod yesterday, I got to a zen place where I thought I could go on forever. I couldn't have done that at you're pace; that's my 5k pace. If your aim is to speed up though, that's great. Well done you. 👏

I used to want a faster 10k I will admit that , got it down to 1hr 3mins. It so important to me now to go the distance and maybe further . I ran better in the sunshine can you find me some 🤣🌞

I'm up to 17 miles on my long runs and can easily do an HM before breakfast.

So yes, it does get easier.

Just takes time.

Patience and Perseverance.

If in doubt, slow down again.

Run like a Loris.

Well done. Yes they get easier. I need to start training for 10K again myself. I’ve not done one since last November other than a parkrun double on New Years Day. I’ve entered a 10K race at the end of April.

Last year I ran 1 x 7K, 1 x 5K during the week plus a parkrun on Saturday and a 10K on Sunday mornings. It was great and I enjoyed the longer runs on Sunday mornings. I love 5K and I also enjoy 10K but have no interest in doing any distance further than 10K. In November I did a 13K mountain race which was great fun but that’s my limit. When I get to 5K on a 10K run I always tell myself I just have a parkrun left to go.

Hi Damian. Do you still ache. I have done a couple of 10k on tread mill. I average a 8 k and 6 k in the week on treadmill and a Park run . I'm fine after the Park run but ache so much on Tuesdays after 8k. I do a couple of Pilates classes in the week and Some HIT classes Monday Wednesday and Friday But need to do more 10k as iv signed up for run in May. Your advice would be appreciated

Hi. No I don’t ache anymore. The more you run and the more your body gets used to running the less you ache.

However, do not try to do too much too soon. Some people make the mistake of going straight to 10K after doing C25K. People need to spend about 3 months doing 5K x 3 times per week first.

I run 5K 3 x times per week every week all through the winter. The weather is horrible right now, I don’t want to be out in it any longer that I have to be. 5K x 3 times per week is great for keeping a base level of fitness. But I do need to start extending my runs now. From now on I plan to do 5K on Tuesdays, 7K on Thursdays, parkrun on Saturday and 10K on Sunday mornings. I did this all through late spring and the summer last year. I don’t have any interest in doing anything more than that. 5K is the perfect distance and I love parkrun. I like also doing the odd 10K race during the summer.

How often do you run 10k? Once a week is probably enough with the other two runs being shorter. Make one of your shorter runs your fast one and take it easy on the 10k.

No I don’t TBH - as long as you’re running three times a week they don’t need to all be 10k. I’d say one a week maximum but if you’re doing one a fortnight that seems fine to me, though of course I don’t know you and everyone is different. If you are thinking of 10k races then you should be able to do more than 10k at a slower pace. But if your target event is 5k then 10k is plenty for your long run. Make your long run a slow one and practice speed on just ONE per week of your shorter runs. I usually take around 80 minutes to run 10k in training but in races I do under 70: it’s a substantial difference. After a 10k training run my Garmin recommends 18-24 hours recovery. After a 10k race it’s been known to recommend three DAYS recovery. That ten minutes faster takes a HUGE amount of extra effort, best saved for race days.

Good running Buddy 👍 good time..... I think every runs different in some way, shape or form as for the breathing I still have those runs where I just can't find that groove 🤔

I don’t know the answer but so many things make up a good run - physical condition, mental attitude, weather. I think you probably are doing too many if you are doing one a week. I set myself a target of one a month when I first got to 10k and that was plenty for me although increased for my GSR and now HM training. My fastest is 1:02 but my last 2 including this morning have been 1:07. Try mixing it up a bit - hills (easy for you, I think), intervals or Fartlek, short fast runs and strength exercises. As you get stronger, you will undoubtedly find the longer distance easier 😃

Thank you Sandie1961. I just do 2 10ks a month at the moment. I already run hills, they are in nearly all of my runs. Perhaps I need to find a nice flatter route for a change . Good luck with your HM and your training 😊😊

I think it does. 10k in around 1:06 has almost become my go to training run and I've generally been doing at least one a week since October. Last week I went a bit OTT and did three of them, but that was definitely an exception.

Pace wise, we're pretty similar I think, so I suspect it mostly comes down to what our "comfortable" distance is; for me this has unexpectedly ended up being around 10k.

Buddy when i went to school 10 x10 made 100 and at that pace i should think you’ve worn your legs down to stumps by now that’s freaking awesome you must feel so proud 👏
