That is great, well done and super speedy so u must b ready for it. Furthest I've run is 6.5 Km in 47 mins! Mind u, I am impressed with that because that was pretty quick for me. Graduated from C25K 10 weeks ago and have moved from a hard slog at 5k to finding it fun!

How long have u been running, any tips on progressing and increasing speed and distance without injury.

Hi JoolieB1,

Thanks for your reply, I started c25k in March of this year. I couldn't run to the end of the garden path without getting exhausted, and that is not an exaggeration. I graduated the end of May and have been religiously running 3 times a week and have gradually built up.

My best advice is to trust your own body and not to put too much emphasis on speed or anything else. If in doubt slow down. My mantra for running is something I took from a book that had nothing to do with running, 'slow is smooth, smooth is fast'. It has worked really well for me. I am working towards a Triathlon when it warms up in the spring so the running part for me has been the second biggest aspect of the Triathlon training with Swimming the first. Keep going and just remember the 10% rule don't go over that when increasing your distance and if that feels hard repeat the distance again the following week. The other thing is use the forum for motivation I did when I was flagging and it worked. Make sure you keep us up to date.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was worried when I graduated, I might slip but it was such hard work, I wasn't going to let that happen! I have set days and 3 days a week every week works for me. I can adjust the time I run depending on my day and the wonderful British weather! I still need rest days but usually keen to run again and planning where and when I will be going next time. Winter means I run more on paths because sloshing in mud not the best, but trail running is my preferred run location
