Triple negative inflammatory breast cancer.

I have just joined this forum and like what I see in the community, so I thought I might introduce myself. I am 57 and have recently been diagnosed with IBC Triple negative. My journey started in December 2016 when I was referred by my GP to the local hospital cancer suite. They performed the usual test, screening and biopsy. I was given the all clear just before Christmas, I was delighted but still needed an answer to my symptoms which were though to be lymphoma of my left breast. My excellent consultant wasn't happy to discharge me and wanted to perform an MRI. This showed a problem and she performed more (11 in total) guided biopsies with ultra sound. I returned in the new year to be given the devastating news. The following day I had sentinel node biopsy, which has shown the presence of spread to the underarm lymph nodes and will require a full clearance when I have mastectomy surgery after chemo. I have done some research and know this is not going to be easy but I am staying positive and taking it a step at a time, the hardest part has been telling my 3 adult sons. I have a very supportive husband and my sister who have been there for me throughout. I am currently on my second week following my first of 6 rounds of chemo. I am coping better than expected but still unsure of the full picture ahead of me other than 6 chemo , surgery and radiotherapy. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thinking of you, just one step at a time, and be kind to yourself and treat yourself when you feel able.

There are a lot of ladies on here that will have been through similar to you, and I am sure will chat to you also. I am 54 and had a mastectomy in May 2015 ER+ and take letrozole now.

Hugs xxx

Good luck with your chemo, I am just finishing my first cycle, I will be having my second on 17th. I had chemo first as I have stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer and will have surgery after. The chemo has not been as bad as I expected, just getting used to the tiredness, the anti sickness meds really worked well, and the injections to boost my immunity seem to have worked. Preparing myself for the hair loss which is just starting. Good luck with your treatment and recovery. Take care of yourself. x

Sorry to hear your diagnosis. Your treatment will be over sooner than you think. It may seem a long road ahead but, hopefully the better weather is on it's way which always does me good. Fortunately your consultant persevered, some people aren't so lucky. The fact that you have a supportive family is great. I have 3 adult children. My daughter took it the worst -mainly because she was concerned about her possible chance of getting this horrible disease.

My best wishes with your journey and do come back to this site if you have any questions or worries xx

Thank you Chrissie2. I am so grateful that my consultant was super efficient and persevered to get to the bottom of my symptoms. It could have quite easily been missed altogether. I was told that my diagnosis is rare but not impossible to treat , I have learnt so much researching my condition as I believe knowledge is power to help me through this. The support on this site is amazing. Best wishes for your recovery, hopefully there will be sunshine on the way. xx
