Was diagnosed with osteoporosis just over 5years ago, have completed5 a year course of alendronic acid with no problems ,but my osteoporosis is apparently very severe, although I am OK apart from occasional spinal fractures....... I have now been recommended for teriparatide, I hate injections and just wonder how anyone else has fired with this treatment.

Hi Blondeisbest, have just finished 2 years of Teriparatide and had no side effect the injections are very small and are easy to administer. My bone density has improved by 17.5% I would have been happy to stay on them but only recommend 2 years, I’m now on yearly infusion for 3 years. Hope you find Teriparatide as good as I did

Thank you for your reply, I'm a bit apprehensive but feel I have to give it a go, the AA didn't change my density score it's still - 4.5 and - 5.6 in my lower spine.... Hopefully I'll tolerate it OK...... Thank you.

I’ve been on teriparatide for 4 months so far. Apart from the faff of remembering to do the injection everyday I’ve not experienced any side effects at all.

I've been on it since November last year & have lost hair & had brain fog! I have an appt. next week with the specialist & will be asking him to put me on Evenity - one injection/month & has had much better results than Teraparatide. I guess everyone has different reactions but I don't understand why you've been prescribed Teraparatide when Evenity (I think it came out last year) has clearly shown better results 🤔 Maybe it's a Nat. Health price problem?

Oh blimey... That's not good, hope it goes well for you, I hadn't heard of any of these drugs but I think they're all very pricey and have to be funded, haven't started treatment yet so maybe will enquire, although my osteoporosis nurse did say teriparatide was the blue ribbon of drugs.

Hi I finished my two year course of Teriparatide in July and I just want to reassure you the injections are nothing to be scared of. The needles are very fine and only measure 5mm in length. You can barely feel it, so please do not be scared. I have recently had my first infusion of Zolendronic acid as follow up treatment. Good luck.

Hi I was on Terraparatide for two years. I believe that’s all you can take it for. I like you was very nervous about doing it but the pain from my bones spurred me on. You’ll be fine after a couple of times.

Thank you for your reply, like you I feel I dont have any choice, but I'm sure it will be fine, how are you doing now did the teriparatide do any good?

I finished the Terraparatide and I had quite a big improvement with my bones after. They went from -5.5 to -4.6. I am now on Denosumab. I’ve had no trouble with it.
