is there anyone out there who has stopped the 18 month Teriparatide treatment halfway through? Or even after a few months? I am really struggling with the side effects: bone and joint pain, lack of energy, etc. I’m on Pregabalin for the pain. I think it does stop the pain a bit, at least it doesn’t turn into a sort of fibromyalgia./entire body pain. I am 74, and I’m wondering about spending 18 months of my life in this state…

Teriparatide
I experienced the same. I also put on a lot of weight. I stopped after 6 months and all of side effects were gone within a fortnight. I am now going down the yoga/diet/vitamin route. For me the pain outweighed any benefits.
Thanks Gam3. Good to know I’m it alone. Which were the worst side effects for you? What were your dexa T scores? In 2021 mine where: hip -3.7, spine -2.8, Fem neck -2.9. So, because of my hip score, the.ROS suggest that I definitely need a treatment. I will wait to hear from Rheumatology, and presume I will have a choice between Zolendronic Acid or Denusomab.
Been taking calcium, vitamin D3 and magnesium for years. I am active and make sure I do a minimum walking every day. But that is not enough with my hip score.
sorry can't help much except to say you need a plan from your doc to move on to the next treatment as soon as you finish tptd, to maintain gains;
my Mum had pains and stopped taking it; her case was criminally mismanaged,
so i'm not sure what the doc said was correct but i had the impression that she could've restarted at another time;
as it turns out, a scan found a tumour,
which is a contraindication for tptd, and thus ruled out as an option for my Mum.
before she started, endo was saying have it for 18 months (australia), with reviews at 6, 9, 12 months etc, i.e could opt out any time if couldn't tolerate it
Thank you for this. Sorry to hear about your mum. Was the tumor in the bones? Not osteosarcoma?
thanks friend, they couldn't do a biopsy cause too difficult, not to mention should be coring out a piece of elderly patient's bone!;
i don't think it's osteosarcoma, cause it's outside a vertebra?, that's my interpretation, doesn't originate from bone marrow.
but anything's possible. docs first thought lung to bone, then changed to 'not sure' 9_9
i want to chat w radiologist, but they're another level of inaccessible specialist
i'm not too bothered about it as it's kind of small and contained,
but there are other growths, i should have a closer look but so much other stuff going on !
I am also taking pregabalin, have gained lots of weight and feel tired most of the time. I think a lot is down to the side effects but this does reduce nerve pain.
