Hi I had my 1st teriparatide injection Tuesday at 10.30am with nurse. After 15 mins felt shaky and hot but after that ok. After 4 hours felt really tired that night slept differently to normal wKing up alot. Yesterday I did my own injection at 7.45pm as I wanted to change it to evenings. Felt OK went to bed around 10pm again kept waking up. By 7am this morning had terrible headache and nausea and neck really painful. I don't think I can continue like this so my question is will these side effects ease of and how long also I'm concerned about people saying they faint as I drive alot so it's quite scary. Any help appreciated

Hi Sorry to hear the injections are making you feel so bad . I’ve been on Teriparatide for about 7 weeks now like you I inject myself at night . Two days before i started the injections I ended up having shingles which wasn’t pleasant. It does make me feel slightly nauseous and I’ve only woke up once feeling sick during the night. I think we’re going to have good days and not so . I hope you persevere with the injections and feel better soon Take care

Thank you I have been exhausted all day after being sick this morning and have a headache. I have managed to eat a little . I going to keep up with injections until after weekend to let my body adjust if the headache goes I will feel better so fingers crossed. Are you still unwell after 7 weeks or manageable side effects now x

I did take paracetamol this morning then was sick. Headache worn off now and just done 3rd injection fingers crossed I will wake up ok. I have to keep it up as I too have spine fractures. I hate this osteoporosis. I have not managed the bruises yet lol hope your now doing ok after the shingles that is awful I have had that near my eyes ut was awful. Have all your side effects gone and how long was it until you felt better.

Yeah was certainly a shock to be told you have osteoporosis . My doctor told me I’ve just been “unlucky “ as all my bloods have came back normal and no family history. I started having pain in my back and front . I was beginning to think I had another fracture then the spots appeared after a week, which I still have but not as painful. I’m still a bit anxious before I injected myself , but I think it’s only natural to feel that way . I’m just trying to keep active and stick to a healthy diet.

So far I’ve been okay so hopefully that will continue. x

This is the first I have written anything and I am not sure if I am doing it in the right place. I am now on my 5 th month of Teriparatide. When I started it used to give me a feeling like pins and needles. Now I don't experience any side effects like that. I do get wee bruises but I think some days I do the jab better than other days. I am told I have very severe osteoporosis. I was also told it had to be hereditary to be so severe. I was a walker and it was a big part of my social life with my 2 best pals. I am starting to accept that is a thing of the past. Hope your side effects start to improve.

The injections are considered to be more effective than taking the weekly aledronate tablets and when your bone density improves walking (using walking poles on rougher ground ) would be beneficial

Keep up healthy diet with calcium, magnesium, vit d, boron also recommended

Good morning Rooruby

I have been injecting Teriparatide for 18 months

In beginning I did feel a little odd wasn’t sure was it because I was so nervous Mine was sudden diagnosis from severe loin pain to osteoporosis over night I had multiple spine fractures

I was lucky as when I saw consultant he advised me to drink at least 1.5 litre water daily and it helped with headache I still get a little discomfort in by bones from time to time but nothing like original pain

I just had DEXA scan and bone density increase by 16% So hopefully you can hang in there as it definitely works

I have had no issues with driving

Wishing you good luck and speedy recovery

Thank you for the positive reply My head is just niggling today nothing like yesterday it was awful I could not even stand. I also drink lots of water. Today my spine is so painful but like you say we have to try and push through this. So happy you have a 16% improvement xxx
