Has anyone had issues with blood sugar / gloucose levels whilst taking the daily injections ? Also I have frequent trip to the loo overnight if I take the injection at night time ?

Hi there, did you have blood tests because you had symptoms or were they routine? I have been on teriparatide for over a year now but never had a blood test. I have other health issues, like extreme fatigue but I was suffering with that beforehand, although it is far worse now, it may not be the treatment.

I had blood tests three months after starting the treatment & then other blood tests because of the symptoms - however no sign of raised gloucose or diabetes which is good . I think it may be a side effect which is slightly annoying but not as bad as some !

Hi! I had terraparatide and had no problems whatsoever with them other than a bit of bowel problems but I would get that with anything different. I’m now on Denosumab and because of the changeover I’ve had another four back fractures. Apparently it takes one to two years to work.

Hi , I’m sorry to hear you’ve had fractures after stopping Teriparatide - how terrible that you were given a follow on medication that would take 2 years to work x

I’m afraid you can only take terraparatide for two years as there is a risk of cancer if you are on it longer. So I had to switch to something that agreed with me.

The two-year limit on teriparatide was lifted in 2020.

When I spoke to my Consultant she told me oh no it can only be two years because of the risk of cancer. I can’t believe she told me that. It wasn’t that long ago. I had no side effects with it and had no problem injecting myself. The Denosumab I have upsets my tummy. Not enough to worry about but it’s annoying. I’m due my next injection of Denosumab at the end of January so now it’s wearing or worn off Ive got no problems with my tummy.

I hadn’t heard that either . I think you can only continue after 24 months if you are at high risk of fractures … which to be honest is a high percentage of us x

I definitely am. I’ve had seven back fractures. I’m not sure if they are counting ones that have got worse. But according to what they said it was three three years ago and four this year.,

Oh yes, absolutely with the weeing! Within 30 minutes to an hour after injecting I have to rush to the loo with a very insistent need to wee. It’s the only side effect I’ve had and easily manageable so I’m not complaining!

Not sure about blood sugar but I have noticed I sometimes get a bit sweaty and shaky and eating a few sweets seems to help so maybe.

Ah thanks for your reply & that is good to know - that’s how I feel - sweaty & shaky but a small price to pay as I had a Dexa scan - 8 months into the treatment ( privately ) and my bone density has improved in hips and spine so I’ll def keep going for the 2 years X

Good to get the DEXA - I’ll have to wait till I finish the course of teriparatide, can’t afford private!
