Helpful information on supplements

I have recently found this resource- Dr. Doug Lucas at Optimal Bone Health. He is an orthopedic surgeon who has transitioned his practice into prevention instead of treatment of bone fractures. He is on YouTube and has a good free masterclass. This video is on basic information for supplementation. youtube.com/watch?v=EbCkXck...

I have osteopenia and had been in steady decline for the last 6 years. The MD wanted me to start bisphosphonates, but I declined. I have been doing OsteoStrong for 2 years, yoga and supplementing and saw all 4 of my DEXA numbers improve. Trying to stay off the drugs!

I hope this information is helpful- there is a lot of information on the Optimal Bone Health website

Thank you for posting this video Foodie2shoes. It answered questions I had about VK2 and some questions that I didn’t know I had!

I was just about to post about this myself as I've just finished the free foundations course (access via the free masterclass) and also watched many of the you tube videos. All seems like very sound advice and in general I'm really impressed, especially as so much information is given freely. The only part I struggle with is the amount of protein recommended, it's huge! 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and that's if you eat meat, I don't. Even more needed as a veggie apparently due to absorption restriction of veg protein - 1.6g, that's just impossible without eating an excess of calories. I will do my best on that front. That aside, the rest I think is really good and I'd recommend others looking for info to sign up for the free foundations course as it runs through everything, module by module, in a very coherent way. Thanks for highlighting this to everyone 🥰

Thanks for the reply. I haven’t done the masterclass yet but plan on it. Have you tried supplementing with a protein shake or bar? Might help you get a little more.

Thanks for your recommendation, yes, I already use a protein powder in my morning smoothie. I get about 80-90 grams of protein a day which I thought was pretty good and way over the 1g per Kg of body weight recommended by other bone experts. If I followed Dr. Doug I really need more than double that. Impossible! Once you've done the Masterclass then make sure you follow the link to the free Foundations course, that gives a lot more info then the masterclass.
