Sorry, can't help with your specific question. Although apparently calcium from many vegetable sources is well absorbed if you want to increase your dietary intake.

I do know that calcium citrate is usually better tolerated and better absorbed than carbonate. Get capsules, not hard tablets.

Also Vitamin K2 (not K1) is supposed to help send calcium to the bones where you want it so it doesn't settle onto the walls of blood vessels or into organs where it can do harm. Keeping a good calcium/magnesium balance is also a good idea. If you've been taking calcium supplements for a while this may have made it harder for your body to absorb enough magnesium. If you take a magnesium supplement (rather than, say an occasional Epsom salts bath or footbath) you should try to take it at a different time from calcium so the calcium doesn't interfere with its absorption.

I've been taking Salus Floradix liquid iron supplements. They do have a calcium version but I haven't found their ingredients list online. Certainly the iron supplement is well tolerated. If I had to take iron pills I would be a non-compliant patient!

And there is another product called Algaecal. Again, I have no personal experience of it. Sounds similar to what you are considering.

You don’t need to take calcium supplements at all. If you supplement with vitamin d3 with co factors ( magnesium, vitamin k2-MK7, and boron) that increases the availability of the calcium in your diet significantly, directs it away from your soft tissue to your bones and keeps it there ( hopefully!). Have a look at Facebook Group “vitamin d and co factors. U.K.”

Good luck.

Hi Summer, I'm no expert on this, but, for osteopoenia I take a product which contains, lithothalnium calcareum to provide calcium and magnesium and I believe it is magnesium we need to supplement. It also contains K2 and D3. I did a lot of research before settling on this one. If you'd like to know which it is I'll pm you as I'm not sure if it's okay to put brand names on here. It is vegan, as I am, and even vegans eating no dairy produce are advised that it's usually magnesium rather than calcium that is needed, but, please feel free to check for yourself.
