I have just been diagnosed with Osteoporosis T -2.9 in hips and spine at 64 years old.

Dr prescribed biophosphates as my risk of fracture is high (statistically in paper). The thought of having drugs with side effects makes me run a mile and so I started my research that brought me here. I was prepared to take the Calcium and Vit D supplement offered but even this has been a deception. I found out that Calcium carbonate is the cheapest form, is a rock and not very absorbable, plus the formula has aspartame and sucrose. Sucrose moves to the gut straight away where the good bacteria feeds from it and dies! Aspartame produces inflammation. I took one chewable tablet and that's it!

There's so much information that gets very confusing. Today I found Dr Doug Lucas in youtube

If you are lost like me and need a road map, I found really good info there, about supplements like Calcium, K2- MK7, Vit D3 and Strontium with amounts and how to take them.

I hope this helps any of you

Did your doctor do a FRAX fracture risk calculation? A t-score of -2.9 on its own wouldn't make fracture risk high, so I'm wondering whether you've already had a fragility fracture or have other health issues or take particular medications that would raise your fracture risk? Unfortunately many doctors seem to try to scare us into taking meds as soon as one t-score goes into the osteoporosis range!

I only had the DEXA scan here in UK. the doctor said that my results show a 25% risk of fracture in the next 10 years and I should take Aleronic Acid, that's it! and now, here I am like all of you, researching like a Bone specialist to find out how to help myself

Well at least you’re not blindly accepting the advice to take these drugs. Maybe the doctors should start popping them. -2.9 is not really bad and you might be able to turn that around.

It is a hard decision MWZ3, thank you for optimism, I am very optimistic too. Their comments were that I am very naive Lol !

I would congratulate you to be honest. I have a score of 3.4 but my doctor understands that I don't want the chemicals. So I did my research too and take Now foods Bone Strength along with vit d3. Plus they measured my height wrong at the dexa place and they think I have lost 2 more inches, which I haven't. I had a nasty fall a year ago right onto the hip I broke 20 years ago. But, no fracture. Made a mess of tendons and ligaments 😉 but not fracture! So I must be doing something right. Keep on researching and do what you think is best for you. Bring positive I would say you have 75% risk of not having a fracture xx

Unbeliable that they measured your height so terribly wrong, Frodoles. Definitely you are doing really well.

It is great to find other people in the same boat. It seems to me that doctors finish their learning at University and then let the Pharma companies to do the research.

I understand that the body is very intelligent and the drugs can activate ways of healing, no problem with that. What I don't like is when drugs repress the body natural way to heal and as a result, more damage is caused.

I also have Osteoporosis and I am 57. My Naturopath is helping manage it with supplements. You likely can't get this formula because it is a small Canadian company but I have included the incredients. The powder is called Osteoporosis Formula. In addition I am taking D3 and K2. Hope that helps

Thank you very much Missy 0202, I have just bought a mixture of different formulas to make up the quantities. Yours look very complete and I like that it is a powder

Hello.

I can’t answer about supplements I’m afraid, but I have, so far, chosen not to take any medication.

I would strongly suggest you ask to have your parathyroid levels checked though. Nothing to do with thyroid at all, but very important to look into (it’s just a simple blood test and GPs don’t always know about it… mine didn’t).

Fran 😉

I also didn’t take medications for osteoporosis in my lower hip despite clinical advice. Instead I took up weight training and balance work. Best way to avoid future fractures is to improve your body’s strength through gradual regular training. And also diet and good supplements . My bone density has normalised and slightly improved in 4 years and also I feel much stronger . they no longer hassle me to take those drugs.

Thank you Fran57. My bone profile blood test is normal so I would like to discuss with my doctor how this result works out with my Dexa scan result of T-2.9

I will take the opportunity to ask about PTH test

Research bisphosphanates before taking. Some research says they can cause more fractures than taking nothing. Also get Primary hyperparathyroidism ruled out as a cause. It has been proven that untreated, hyperparathyroidisn DOES cause osteoporosis due to calcium being constantly leaked from your bones.....

Thank you Cappuccinobaby, worth the research and as far as I have seen, no drugs is convincing me (at this stage) to take
