Should I continue taking Risedronate with D3, K2 and magnesium?

I have osteopenia bordering on osteoporosis

Do you know why you've been prescribed Risedronate if you don't have osteoporosis? Have you fractured?

yes fractured wrist

DXA -2.4 lumber

Ok, it's because of the fracture then. Have they run blood tests to check for underlying causes? If not, ask to have your parathyroid, calcium and vitamin D checked, plus thyroid, coeliac and full blood count

yes all done, no issues vit d 89

So no cause found? If it were me, I would push for more tests! Not that I'd be likely to get anywhere 😀

but would you expect a fracture anyway? People without osteoporosis fracture when it is on hard ground.

yes, I tripped backwards and hit wrist on a marble hearth! my thoughts too!

Tricky as DXA so close at -2.4?

I feel its a bit of a blanket NHS response, but don't know enough to ignore the advise.

I wonder if the supplements Osteo-P-Complex, alone are enough to support an aging skeleton.

I had to change from Alendronic acid due to heartburn to Risedronate ?ok so far

thank you for comments as hard to find info to rely on!

Well a 20 year old would have broken that wrist so not indicative of fragile bones at all. I’m 78.5 and won’t take the drugs.

I have vitamin K2 and make sure everything else is sufficient like vitamin D, magnesium, etc.

DXA Spine and Hip

SITE BONE DENSITY (gm/cm2) T-score (

Z-score)

Lumbar Spine Total 0.789 -2.3 -0.4

Hip Total 0.834 -0.9 0.5

Femoral Neck 0.642 -1.9 -0.2

-5 in two places like wrist and low back. Hips aren’t too bad with -2 or so. There’s a big difference between worst and best numbers which brings the whole thing into question. If you have small bones they could still be strong. Many don’t trust the Dexa scans anyway. At my age of 78.5 I think the drugs outweigh the risks for me.

yes idk the dexa tells me my bones are weak and I am 60 and now on Tymlos . I’ve had consults with several doctors who all agree. My top endocrinologist said “ we don’t know why with these scores you have not yet fractured. “ he said” the dexa only tells 40% of the story. “ He was implying that there are aspects of my bones that are excellent. Still with my -4.7 I have no choice but to do strong medicine.

I don’t see that my bones are strong like you said they could be strong - the low scores indicate how porous they are which seems to mean they are weak.

DEXA score is a measure of bone density, not the quality of that bone. It is also affected by the strength and tone of the muscles around joints etc, balance. There are invasive ways (biopsy) and some new tools , see quoted insert from a study, 'New tools, trabecular bone score (TBS) and hip structural analysis (HSA), obtained during DXA, can supply informations about bone structure of spine and femur, respectively,' However I know nothing about these measures but the logic is sound. One might have less dense but good quality, strong bone or denser but poorer quality. DEXA is currently the mass method of doing osteo diagnosis but it has significant limitations.
