Risedronate

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and for now, until I see someone at the bone clinic, prescribed Risedronate sodium 35mg once per week. Does anyone take this and do they suffer any side effects. I have been feeling so poorly after taking this.

Thanks

Cocolou

I did take this a couple of years ago but after about 9 months I stopped. I hated the regime of taking it and I did feel unwell but then I had other things wrong with me too. At the moment, because I am taking other medications, I am trying to control things with diet. I do know other people who are taking Risedronate or Aledronic Acid without any problems so perhaps it just doesn’t suit some people. I hope you find some positive answers. Good luck.

I have taken Risedronate for around three months now, having changed from Alendronic Acid. The AA caused crippling joint pains and I was afraid Risedronate would do the same but thankfully it hasn’t to date. If you have just started this medication the side effects may well settle down given time.

Hi

I took this drug a while ago after taking Alendronic Acid for 3 months and couldn’t tolerate it and then took Risendronate for a month weekly and then daily and on all occasions had constipation and bloating. I am now on 6 monthly bone injections and so far 🤞feeling ok. Good luck

I Have been on Alendronic acid Terapramide injections daily for 18 months. I am now on Dodronate infusions every 6 months for 2 years. I am about to have my second infusion as my 6 months is up. I can honestly say apart from Alendronic acid non have given me any side effects.

Hi CocoLou, I’ve been on Risedronate since middle of September. First 3 weeks I had terrible headache for about 4 days after taking it. Since then had no problems at all.

Hi CocoLou, I was originally on Alendronic Acid for 6 months, but had terrible leg pain. I was swapped to Risondronate which has been better. I do sometimes get leg pain, but not sure if it's related to my job or the pills. I've been on it for two and a half years, and recently been rescanned. Sadly I've got worse! I'm continuing for another two years. Like has been said, it's the weekly regime that depresses me, as it disrupts my routine, and seems to steal a morning. I don't know why I've not got used to it in three years, but I haven't! I hate it! I hope you get on OK with the pills though, with no side effects.
