Hi, I'm coming to the end of 18 months on teriparatide and my doctor is extending this for a further 6 months. I'm wondering if anyone has taken a 'break' rather than going straight on for 2 years or has been offered an extra 6 months having finished the original 18 some time ago?

Hi my understanding is the normal course length of Teriparatide is two years. When I had this drug a length of 18 months was never mentioned. All the literature I received was all for two years. The actual course length I had was 26 vials giving 28 doses in each vial.

Hope this reassures you?

Best wishes

Thank you. Odd, I understood the extra six months was a new thing after they removed the black box warning, but maybe things changed between you and me starting it.

I started teriparatide in November 2024 and was told by the consultant that I would have to inject myself daily for 2 years. There was no mention of a review or pause at 18 months.

Hi, I finished my 2 year course of Tereraperatide June last year. Originally told it would be a 2 year course no breaks and not to miss doses. I have now had my first injection of Prolia. That will just be every 6 months for 3 years.Keep well

Sounds good! I presume the teriparatide lowered your DXA scores?
