Ibandronic Acid.............

good morning, had extremely painful reaction to Alondronic Acid, stop taking after five weeks. After seeing rheumatologist have been prescribed a monthly dose of Ibandronic Acid, (with no discussion) which on reading it up is basically AA under another name. Has anyone had experience of this monthly doseage. The Rheumatologist seemed to think that I had made up the side effects, despite the fact that I had written down what had happened. I also take Adcal with Vitamin D and after reading the posts now take Vitamin K2, Magnesium and Vitamin B12 and do weight bearing exercises three times a day. The Dexa scan gave me a 3.9 reading on my spine. this after breaking my hip last year, was discharged for hip in January, and don't really think about it, breaking your hip is a doddle compared to dealing with Osteporosis. Any comment on experience with Ibandronic acid would be appreciated. Kind regards................

Hi seaholme

I have no experience of ibandronic acid but have had a bad experience with both AA and risendronate. Not as bad as you though. Although the ibandronic acid will by-pass the gut I would not personally be interested in this drug because as you say is a type of bisphosphonate . I would change the rheumatologist/ medic if one ever suggested to me that I was lying.

Hi Kaarina, many thanks for your response, it mirrors my own thinking, fortunately OS is the only health condition I have and I feel that I have to really consider whether I take this alternative bisphosphonate. Have to say that I was speechless (and that doesn't often happen) when the rheumatologist told me that she had no experience of anyone having what I called a multiskeletal reaction to AA, we are grown women afterall not twelve year olds and the instruction leaflet does ask you to report side effects. If I decide to take it will post any side effects

Kind regards...........................
