Searching a good doctor for oncology and Y90 treatments in Indiana.

Have had 4 rounds of standard chemo. Durvalumab, gemcitabine and cisplatin.

Have stage 4 bile duct cancer that spread to my liver. Masses on both sides and smaller problems in between. After 3 rounds of chemo, they took me off cisplatin due to severe tinnitus. Have not replaced it.

Recommending possible Y90 treatments. How do I pick a good oncologist and a radiologist in Indiana? Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic both says chemo is best option and did not recommend I travel to see them. Any recommendations? Indianapolis and Fort Wayne about an hour away.

I feel stick with no options. Only 66 and would like some options or excitement about treatments.

Did Y90 help anyone? Is it invasive?

Thank you in advance.

I wish I could give you a recommendation but I'm in rural East Texas and I was far from happy with the care my late husband received here. Hopefully Andrea or the other moderator Foxy can have some insight. Have you tried the internet? Maybe see if there are any oncologists or radiologist that have received great reviews from patients? Or a Cancer Center ? Hopefully there's someone on here that is familiar with the area. I know it's so hard when you feel like they're not even giving you any options. Sharon ❤️

Thank you. I am seeing an oncologist and a radiologist, they just do no offer much hope. Not sure they have really treated this type of cancer with success. Looking for a possible change.

Hello Printtech,

Since you have bile duct cancer (aka cholangiocarcinoma), not primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), I highly recommend you reach out to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation. We work closely with them and they are terrific. They have a specialist map on their website here: cholangiocarcinoma.org/spec...

I have their information and they are great. Still looking for assistance in Indiana. They have a surgeon listed that I have seen and liked, by I am inoperable at this time. Was hoping someone else from Indiana had someone to recommend. I will keep watching the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation site. Thank you for the reply.

I have had a Y90 procedure and it was very successful. It was done when the HCC was small. My liver would not sustain surgery. It was far easier than surgery. Few side effects. If I have to have another due to recurrence, I would not hesitate. I hope this helps. Good luck to you. I already has GIST tumors in my liver and am taking Gleevec. Adding chemo would not be advisable.

Thank you for your reply. I am just trying to find any treatments that might reduce tumors and give me more time. The more you learn the harder it seems. I hope your situation gets better.

I am glad to hear you a doing well. how long ago did you have Y90 treatment. any further treatment planned ? what was the size of your lesion and AFP levels when you were diagnosed. Were you a candidate for liver transplant?

Sorry to take so long getting back to you, The lesion was only 1cm. It was discovered from an MRI which was done to check on my GIST tumors which had metastasized to my liver. My liver was found to be in bad shape due to previously unknown cirrhosis. It therefore was inoperable. I had a y90 procedure in August. I just had my first AFP test which was a 4.8. The y90 rendered the tumor ubviable. The Gist tumors were likewise rendered unviable by my restarting Gleevec. Yesterday, my surgical oncologist said that all is well so far. My liver is functioning normally. The accidental discovery of the small HCC tumor was fortunate for me. It was small and easy to destroy. The y90 was not very taxing at all. It worked!
