Newly diagnosed with HCC

I am a 78 year old retired educator who has battled GIST CANCER for 20 years. To my surprise, An HCC tumor was found in my liver in between two GIST tumors. in my June 5 MRI. The GIST tumors were shrinking out of site thanks to be taking Gleevec, a targeted therapy drug. My surgeon could not safely resect the HCC tumor so I am going to have the Y90 procedure. I am happy to have found this group and hope to learn from you.

I’m so sorry about the HCC tumor. My husband had Y90 after diagnosis with Stage 4 HCC and had a good response with the large primary tumor shrinking and part of it dying. He had good liver function at the time and no side effects. Unfortunately, he also had some satellite lesions and required a second one later on and did develop some temporary ascites after that one which resolved. Best to you and hope this is helpful and encouraging!!

Welcome to our community. I've never heard of someone with GIST cancer developing an HCC tumor. Have you gotten a second opinion?

My oncology team confirmed it with a biopsy. They said that my case is an anomaly.

HiI am so glad that you found the group. I'm afraid that my husband wasn't a candidate for Y90 so I don't have any personal information about it. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Wishing you the best of luck with the procedure.
