I am after some advice please. I wonder whether any of you lovely people have any experience of using either Candesartan or Omlesartan?
I also take thyroid medication in the morning. I have been treating my HBP naturally for about 18 months, which worked well until a couple of months ago. I can’t seem to budge it from around 140-145/95-105. I’m now at the point where I think I need to treat with medication.
My GP is pretty happy prescribing either of the above or any others at a low starting dose. It would be great to hear your experiences please, particularly fellow thyroid sufferers.
Beautiful morning.
Thank you for reading my post.

I, like you, take thyroid meds in the morning. My AFib journey started on November 29th 2022. With an ambulance to A and E, blood pressure 245/140 heart rate 145.. Medications were prescribed but have been changed, and titrated upwards since then. I am now on 10mg bisoprolol and 32 mg candesartan. Maximum doses for these medications. I feel fine and my blood pressure and heart rate are in normal range I'm still in the early stages of my diagnosis and the next step is an echo cardiogram next week. Fortunately I have never had any pain and have felt well throughout. My diagnosis at this stage is "heart failure". Which is scary. Hope you find the right balance. I also have friends who take candesartan with no problems.
Gosh Miriam, you’ve been on a scary journey. I’m so sorry to hear that you might have heart failure. I think us thyroid sufferers are more vulnerable to cardiac problems. I, too, have experienced a couple of emergency care episodes. One about 18 months ago when I had extremely high BP and vertigo. And a second a few months ago when my BP spiked again suddenly and I had chest pains. Both very frightening. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It really helps.
I've been taking olmesartan 20 and sometimes 40mg for many years along with a ccb...lercanidipine 20mg. In my experience it's been most effective of any of its class...no discernible side effects... even at higher doses.. although I question benefit of going above 20mg. Works for me.
really glad it works for you. I needed to stop it after 2 days because my resting heart rate went too low and I had cold/flu like symptoms. A bit gutted because I’m back to square one again. I was really optimistic about the Olmesartan as it has a good side effect profile. I’m thinking of perhaps requesting irbersartan instead but worried that it could be a class reaction and I’ll have similar issues.
