Candesartan 4 mg was added to my amlodipine 5 mg a few months ago. When my BP was still high, the dosage was increased to 8 mg. I had no problems on the 4 mg, but after the increase I developed an irritating little dry cough. It felt the same as the one I had when on perindopril, except not as hacking. Has anyone else experienced cough while on Candesartan? It's making me feel miserable, but I hesitate to ask for a change since the combo is the only one that has worked so far. I was on telmisartan (same class as candesartan) a few years ago, but it just seemed to increase my BP. I've tried taking DM, but that doesn't help at all.

Candesartan cough?
I had similar symptoms when taking Losartan 25mg and Amlodipine 5mg. Came off Losartan and doubled Amlodipine to 10mg. Feel great now and BP steady.
The only problem for me was that increasing the Amlodipine to 10 mg gave me burning legs and swollen ankles. I'm thinking of ask my GP if I can increase it to 7.5 mg and decreasing the candesartan back to 4mg to see if that helps.
hi I have had a cough since taking candesartan. Didn’t see any warning about this on the packaging. I will be relieved if I can attribute it to the tablets as I was concerned it may have been something more serious.
From what I've read, The ARBs, the class that candesartan belongs to, are supposed to have a lower risk of causing cough than ACEs (the ones that end in -pril). However, apparently candesartan can definitely cause a cough, although not as often as in those taking an ACE inhibitor.
Hi allNot sure if this is because I have a pulmonary sarcoid but when Ramipril caused a cough and was then given Candestartan the respiratory consultant said it would too. Now on Losartan and still have cough (waiting to see Cardiologist) though not as bad as Ramipril. Just in case this helps anyone. On another note just had Losartan increased to 50mg per day and legs are numb feet tingling. Does anyone know if this will pass please ?
Best regards and thanks everyone.
My cough now on candesartan isn't as bad as when I was on perindopril either, so I supposed it's something we have to live with. I've tried just about every other BP med imaginable, and they all have their side effects. I know I felt way better before these meds, but without them my BP would be out of control.
Yes I have severe congestion with nasal blockage and cough.
Hello, My cardiologist said that Perindolpril may cause dry persistent cough he said if that happens we may need to give another drug in the same family. Hope this helps
