Anyone Taking Losartan

I have switched over from amlodipine to Losartan and just wondering if anyone is on Losartan and what they have experienced if any side effects or if the drug is working for them etc...

Would love to hear your feedback.

HH, I have been switched from many BP drugs, including Amlodipine, due to their side effects. I have now been on Losartan for some 3 years with no discernible side effects so far (hope I don't regret saying that!). But I believe I may have replied to you on this subject on another forum so I won't bore you by replying any further here - hopefully, you will receive many helpful replies from others on HU with experience of Losartan.

I was on Losartan, but was taken of it over my kidneys. I will add that that wasnt the only thing that was changed. I'm on MTX as well for PsA. Other than that i was fine. XX

Hello fastball,

Can you tell me what was the problem with your kidneys that led to the Losartan being stopped, please? I'm assuming that perhaps in your case it may have been because the Losartan caused too large an increase in your Creatinine levels. Most medics accept that medications such as Losartan may cause a rise in Creatinine but don't seem to be concerned as long as the rise is not too great and remains stable. I have read on some reliable sites that Losartan is actually kidney-protective.

Which blood pressure medication were you prescribed in place of the Losartan?

MTX is absorbed through the kidneys - are you sure that wasn't the culprit, even partly, Chris?

Hi celtic, It was the chemist who stopped my MTX because some of my blood results were too low. When i told the GP who did a blood pressure reading as kept going dizzy. She found my blood pressure too low. Telling her about what the chemist says so she said we can change the, Losartan. I was on 1mg Dixazosin and Spironolactone 25mg ,as well as losartan. what she did is double the Spironolactone 50mg The GP has to be careful what they give me as my Potassium goes to low.

I am now back on MTX and having my bloods check because of kidney damage, the kidney reading has settled at the moment. The size of the MTX has gone down from 20mg to 15mg , i inject with pens which is stronger than tablets.

I've been on Losarton 50 mg along with 25 mg Hydrochlorthiazide for five years. First of all, it worked. Second, no side effects.

Bobogado how long did it take for the Losartan with the 25 mg Hydrochlorthiazide to start lowering your blood pressure?

Thank You

Hi I was switched from Irbesartin to Losartan about 3 years ago, and as far as I'm aware have had no specific side effects. My own GP told me that Losartan was known for its lack of side effects, and generally held the view that it was a safe bet, especially if being taken alongside other medications. Was also suggested I took it at night. So far so good!

I have been on Losartan ( 100mg) for over 10 years and no side effects. Also on a water pill ( 25mg). It works for the most part; but I do have some anxiety and at times have spikes. I am sure that it would be the same results for me if on another medication. I am told it is a very good solid medication with good results. Good luck to you.

I just started a post about Losartan Potassium. I've been on it about 12 years???? My doctor increased the dosage from 50 to 100 mg about 3 or 4 years ago. I've been judging myself for being lazy.

What clued me in was that I talked to someone who went from no BP med to 100 mg of Losartan. She told me that she couldn't move and was lethargic. And today, I talked to someone and she told me a family member took the same drug (mg unknown) and she indicated that he was out of it/did not move.

I don't know what doctor to change to. Don't know what BP med will be safe. Ha. What prescription drug really is safe? I've had bad experiences with Fosamax and Synthroid. And bad experiences with doctors.
