I am a 34 year old Female and have recently had trouble with bowels and abdomen pain, so I saw my GP for that and while she wasn’t interested in that (put it down to IBS), she was very interested in the fact I have had Microscopic Haematuria in my Urine in the past. I was referred to a Kidney Specialist about 5 years ago as a dip stick showed Blood and Protein in urine. After yearly samples sent off for testing, it seems that my urine didn’t have protein in, but did have blood. I was discharged from the Kidney Dr last year and told the blood was just one of those things.
My GP phoned me Thursday and said I should have been given a cystoscopy back then and kept saying she didn’t understand why no one did it and now it’s made me a bit nervous.
My question is, does anyone else have Microscopic Haematuria but no cause? They said they will refer me back to Urology, but that could take months as I know it’s a very busy clinic.
Thanks In advance

I was sent to Haematuria clinic and had a cystoscopy and I have something called Lukoplaqia of the Trigone. Basically just caused from either years of bladder infections or hormones. It can cause microscopic blood in the urine. The Dr said thats absolutely nothing to worry about. I was also sent for CT Urogram and have an appointment on 18th December but I’m pretty sure all is ok there.
He did say that sometimes women do just have blood in their urine and it’s nothing to worry about but that they should be offered a cystoscopy to rule anything dangerous out.
The GP who created such a fuss about me having it was a women, so I do wonder if she was just advocating women’s rights to be properly assessed and not just put down to ‘one of those things’. I’m glad she did though, as I had it for 7 years and it’s nice to know what’s caused it.
Have you at least had an ultrasound to check for Kidney Stones?
No, so far just been told I need to have bloods done next week to check kidney function. I keep thinking it might be kidney stones but do they last this long?
I have health anxiety and obv my first thought is always the very worst things…
yes, I totally get you. I do the same. I think if kidney stones are very small and gravelly, they can be there a long time. I would think at least they should offer you an ultrasound and a cystoscopy. I’d keep on if I were you. It’s all well and good to say it’s one of those things but they can’t really say that until they have investigated and found no obvious cause.
