Amitriptyline and bladder problems

Having taken Amitriptyline for many years for pain relief, I have finally weaned myself off it. However, I now have what the Drs are diagnosing as Overactive Bladder Syndrome. I have never had bladder probs before and my bladder has been scanned and is healthy. I know that Amitrip is used in children with enuresis (bed wetting) probs and I am convinced that stopping the meds has caused this OBS. Has anyone else experienced this? I've been offered new meds to help stop the OBS but the side effects are not good and don't interact well with my Sjogrens. I'm desperate to sort this out as I am now sleep deprived, getting up approx every 2 hours through the night to pee. I'm also wearing tena big pants 24/7 to avoid accidents. It's embarrassing and I'm now reluctant to leave the house. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was on Amityptyline for awhile and I did notice some worsening bladder issues (the meds were for Interstitial Cystitis), however I am off them now and only took them for a month. I would look into doing intermittent catheterizing if that is ok. I currently am on Gabapentin and sometimes cannot feel when my bladder is full , so I do leak. Hi It was actually after weaning myself off the Amitriptyline that the bladder problems started. I did have several bouts of Cystitis as well and I am wondering if my problem is really Interstitial Cystitis.

Hi when it comes to Meds there is no "Free Lunch" They cause other issues many not associated with them in anyway even!

Amytrypline is not a wonder drug causes so many issues. both my friend and i had heart palpitations he thought had start of prostate cancer like father had badly as was up all night peeing you also put on weight as messes with metabolism/hormones which is how it works as happy pills.

Lady near me was on for Fibro issues like me and say's put her into premature menopause.

Ive a Prolactinoma they found my Prolactin had gone right back up so im waiting for a do with Endo's again to scan tumour etc but also found out from pitutary foundation that two of the things id been on omeprazole/Lamzoprazole? and Amy cause high Prolactin!

Hi and thanks for your reply. I didn't have any side effects when taking Amitriptyline, it was when I stopped taking them that the bladder problems started.
