another sleepless night: Hi , been... - British Heart Fou...
another sleepless night

Hope you got on ok at the GP. I think it’s common for a lot of people to have more noticeable symptoms at night. I spend a lot of time lying awake worrying about my symptoms, which of course makes me anxious and exacerbates them, meaning I have a sleepless night. It’s a vicious circle.
In reality my symptoms are no worse at night - it’s just that everything is quieter and we’re not distracted doing other things that focus our minds elsewhere.
It’s a battle to try not to focus on our symptoms, but I can often reassure myself that it is just anxiety making me feel worse, as when I give up trying to sleep, switch the light on and read my book, they become less noticeable.
I too have felt like my organs were being crushed inside. Mentioned it to my GP who suggested it was probably gastric and prescribed me Omeprazole, which did stop that sensation.
Hope you get have a better night tonight.
Thank for that saw gp ,and she was quite positive that it was a muscle problem in-between ribs around the heart area, told me to try and sleep on back and not your sides, which I did and have had a better night ,down side she said waiting list to see cardiologist 8-9 months, I,ve been waiting since September so far.
Had a HA 3 year ago and near miss. 4 stents put in. Been on the routine list of meds since and visited AE a few times and had some scans about a year ago. All said to be ok then. Have pains in chest, back, shoulders, arms and neck frequently. Up since 3:30 with mildish but persistent pains in chest, used GTN spray just now. Helped a bit but all boils down to uncertainty of knowing if this is just ‘normal’ or if a trip to AE is needed. Its always anxiety vs wasting NHS resource. Diagnosed with Angina but don’t feel that helps at all. Isnt that just HA symptoms without the HA occurring ? I sympathise with your stress.
You just lose all trust in what’s going on inside you… and it seems to take quite a lot to trigger GP interest… although I do sort of understand that. At least I’m not in the U.S. health system.
doctors don’t really seem to be concerned about A/F in our experience. We had been reassured that my husband’s risk has been reduced significantly since he’s on anticoagulants and his heart rhythm is stable and in the majority of patients this seems to be the preferred treatment option. Anticoagulants and rate/rhythm meds tend to help control the unpleasant symptoms however breakthrough symptoms do occur from time to time. If this becomes severe enough there are surgical procedures available but it’s a balancing act as to which is the better option. As others have said it’s true you definitely can feel something is a bit odd when you are still and relaxing most healthy people get them too. So it isn’t necessarily a bad sign. If you start to stress over it you’ll find the feeling will get much worse. Better to try some relaxation techniques to focus on till you get a proper diagnosis. Good luck 🤞
