last night had a bad night , middle of the evening my heart set of at a fast pace racing along for about half an hour could,t get it to slow down , took blood pressure several times ranging from 138/80 to151/ 97 pulse rate at highest 101 , saying that their was no real pressure or tightness in chest, eventually started feeling easier heart rate slow down but still could feel strange thing in chest area, had a rough night trying to get to sleep. Feel better this morning . Never had felt this bad since being diagnosed with At Fib 2018 and April of this year when same thing happened, and they started me on Bisoprolol , have been of Bisoprolol for a month because of side effects, waiting to see cardiologist. Ive asked this question before but did, t get much reply, should i go back on meds when i have these attacks, driving me bloody insane with not knowing whats happening.

Hi Mobyfool, as you know we are not allowed to give medical advice. Have you spoken to your GP about a PIP approach to Bisoprolol! It is not uncommon for AFibbers to do this or be like me on a low maintenance dose but take extra during an episode. Bisoprolol for some is a very tricky drug to get used to, it took me several months to do so but I tolerate it well now but only on 1.25mg daily. How long were you on it and what dose? It maybe that you should start on a very low dose and titrate upwards as your body accommodates it. Do speak to your GP for guidance as you sound quite stressed and worried. Hope this helps as you said that you had a poor response last time. Regards Kathleen
Thanks ,I,m on lowdose1.25,first time they put me on it in April but then put it up to 2.5 had real problems with this dose they brought it back down , but I,ve had side effects on low dose dizziness when standing up and feelings in chest, so they have taken me off it then put me back on it a couple of times at the moment I,m off it,they want me to see cardiologist, but this morning I took one, hoping to see Gp this week and see what they say. The gp did say last time if I started to get more problems they would try and speed up my time to see cardiologist, but I won,t hold my breath, and I,m am getting stressed out. I had been off bisoprolol for a month before this episode.
For rate control there’s other options that your GP may offer you. Unfortunately beta blockers can make everything much worse in many ways. I found after being prescribed them for the first time last August I began to notice my heart and jumps and bumps which I hadn’t felt before. It is very disconcerting but have gradually got adjusted to it. If your average bpm is below 100, that is measuring it over at least 30 secs to get an average it will not be damaging your heart when in AFib. Because having an irregular heart beat causes spikes upwards now and again is quite normal to get the odd high reading. As long as you are generally below 100 bpm and feel ok try not to be over anxious. Regards Kathleen
PS you may get more replies if you post on the Atrial Fibrillation support forum section rather than this one
How’s your diet? Magnesium works well to settle things down. Taking daily supplement may help you. Wishing you well.
Hi there,As you know, none of us are allowed to give any medical advice. Have you thought about having a talk with your GP? That may be a good way forward. These symptoms sound very stressful for you and also quite disconcerting. I am o bisoprolol but am lucky in that I don't have any issues with it. Please try not to latch on to suggestions by people either? They may mean we'll, but the suppliments/ medications work.for them but may not work for you!! Also certain duppliments may interract with medicine you take.
I found that the Bisoprolol helped lower my BP significantly. So much that I could even stop one of my BP medication (with pharmacist approval). Now I rarely get 150s/80s, it's more like 120s/80s.
My cardiologist said it could take upto 2 months before Bisoprolol kicks in.
I would go back to your doctor and see if they can recommend an alternative medicine. My father in law was on Flecainide for AFib. I have SVT and have been on Bisoprolol for years but it has become less effective. I’ve just had a failed ablation and they now want to give me a CT scan to see if I can take Flecainide as my arrhythmia responded well to it during the ablation.
