having been given these two tablets for svt while awaiting ablation I was wondering if anyone knew whether this dose was rather high - Flecainide 50mg and Bisoprolol 2.5 mg both twice a day. Have had to change meds after 40years as Disopyramide unavailable. Also was taken off propranolol - it does work well for me but all information I can find about them is for once a day. Slightly confused - have only been seen by arrhythmia nurse who prescribed these.

Bisoprolol and flecainide
Morning, This is my experience - I was originally on bisoprolol 2.5 but it caused my pulse to go too low and so I was taken off them. I had an ablation on Friday! It was unsuccessful !! My SVTs didn’t show up even after over 2.5 hours of EP trying to induce them! So she has now prescribed Flecainide 50mg x 2 ( min doseage) to see if they will help and I am back in clinic 6-8 months time. I am gutted the ablation didn’t work this time however if the Flecainide works even better.
I’m on Bisoprolol 2.5mg a day for SVT but my episodes have increased. I can’t increase my medication because my blood pressure is already naturally low. I’m having an ablation but if it doesn’t work my EP said I might have to go on Flecainide.
Flecainide and bisoprlol combo is working well for me for svt and no side affects that bother me than I can relate back to you. They tried me with diltazem first and this made me quite poorly. Wishing you well. Wondering how successful ablations really are now.
I was told my type of SVT has about a 90% ablation success rate. I’ve had SVT six years and the episodes are just getting more frequent which has affected my mental health and quality of life so that’s why I’ve decided to try the ablation. No guarantees but at least I can reconcile I’ve tried every option. I’d love to be med free and not have to worry about another episode 🤞
Hi, I have Atrial Fibrillation and have been taking 1.25mg of Bisoprolol for 5 years now and have got used to the side effects of tiredness, leg cramps etc. But was recently prescribed 100mg Flecainide per day in addition to the Bisoprolol, after an unsuccessful 2nd Ablation in March this year. I felt absolutely dreadful and didn't think that it was due to the Flecainide until I spoke with my Cardiologist who told me to stop taking it and just take the Bisoprolol increasing the dose to 5mg per day. I have been taking 2.5mg twice a day and have felt much better since. My Cardiologist said that I was totally intolerant to Flecainide.
I hope that it works for you, but don't hesitate to contact the nurse if it isn't making you feel any better. Good luck with everything.
Many thanks for reply. Appreciate your input and your experience with these drugs. I have been lucky in that I’m tolerating these drugs really well and they are working for me. Just get slight flutters in the day. I think perhaps it’s because I was taking such a combination before with the disopryamide and propranolol for over 40years - coming off propranolol was absolutely awful. I wouldn’t want to do that again. I have a lot to consider before I let them attempt ablation now.
