My husband had emergency angioplasty with 2 stents following heart attack, just over 2 weeks ago. He needs a further 1-2 stents, and was told they’d be done within 3-4 weeks, so can’t start cardiac rehab until they’re done. He’s just been told the stents won’t be for at least 8-12 weeks, which has knocked him back. His cardiac nurse told him not to exert himself until his stents are fitted. He was a normally fit and healthy man, walking approximately 60 km each week, to now be told don’t exert yourself. What kind of exercise is he allowed to do?

after heart attack, waiting for more stents - advice needed
I suggest you discuss with the BHF Heart Helpline nurse who will be able to give you a professional opinion, rather than rely on the well meaning advice from people on here who know very little about your husband or his general circumstances or medical background, and can usually only draw on their own experience which may be different from his. Or go back to the cardiac nurse who he saw in the first place.
Hello
Very difficult question to answer but if it were me I would talk to his Rehab Nurses again and ask what if any exercise he can do
I am so sorry what he is going through and the wait been extended but hopefully it will soon come round and then he will be able to get on with Rehab
Let us know how you get on x
I had 2 stents put in then they said I had to have a break from the radiation so they waited another day and put 4 more in.
You should ask the cardiologist of course. Nothing strenuos I would imagine. See your doctor, or check in with the cardiologist rehabilitation service at the hospital. 🙂
Regardless of the extra stents the usual advice after a heart attack is to stick to just short gentle walks until he recovers from that . I needed a second angiogram after my HA and 2 stents and had to wait 3 months.
you are not allowed to start cardiac rehab for at least 8 weeks, so until then it would only be the walking plan whuch a cardiac nurse woukd advise on but if your dad is still waiting stents then he may not be able to do that..
thank you all for your responses. We’ve had no contact from cardiac nurse team since his discharge. We’ve tried to contact them but so far have had no response, that’s why I asked the question in the first place. We’ll keep trying.
Update- phoned cardiac nurse team again, no response at all, even phoned the acute team who couldn’t give us any information. My husband is now feeling more stressed about the whole situation. Feel so let down that nobody is helping him after this traumatic event.
