Driving after a heart attack

Hey, I am 34 and I have just out of the blue suffered my first hesrt attack. I have been advised not to drive for 4 weeks however, do I need to inform my car insurance company about the heart attack? I had an Angiogram but not stents required. Awaiting a Cardiac MRI scan and further tests. Just a little unsure about the insurance side of driving.

I had a heart attack last October and had a stent implanted and was allowed to drive after 1 week as per my consultant’s advice.I notified my insurance company to be on the safe side and they were happy with that.

I’m sorry this has happened. Certainly my insurer states, in their conditions, that you have to do this. You will have to look at your own policy to be sure - but give them a ring anyway.

similar age to you - definitely call them but the car insurance company weren’t bothered. The real problem is travel insurance - be careful as standard cover is unlikely to be enough

my insurer didn’t need notifying, every policy is different, read the small print carefully.

I called my insurance company after HA and stent and they noted it but said that they didn't need to be told.

By law you have to inform your insurance company of ANYTHING which MAY affect your ability to drive a vehicle. That includes medical conditions. Most insurance companies will simply say thank you and then take no further action.

I had a HA out of the blue at 38 due to a congential heart defect. I tapped up my insurers on their webchat and it was fine, thanks for letting them know but no further action needed. Speak to them to be sure but hopefully it doesn't change anything. Hope you're doing OK, it's a big shock!

Tell your insurance company everything but make sure they note it down, just in case

It's best to inform insurance company of everything. I did after a HA and stents; they weren't bothered.. AT least then they can't use it as a get out clause.
