Since I last posted I have had two medical anniversaries. First the metal plate and screws on my left femur had been there for sixteen years, and secondly it was seven years since my first angina attack. To celebrate I had a fall and managed to damage the tendons in my knee as the prosthetic twisted! ☹️
As regards my leg. I am still on the same antibiotics, Co-trimoxazole. Although the side effects are somewhat worse the consultant wants me to try and continue for now.. Another swab was taken to see if the bacterial infections., Enterobacter Hormaechei and Corynebacterium Striatum (these are scary with Dr Google) are still present. The wounds look somewhat better now I am back on silver dressings. I also saw the vascular surgeon about the MRI. Two of the three arteries in the lower leg are now blocked. Angioplasty would have to be done via the foot and is very, vert risky! So for the moment it is "watch and wait" with a further review in a few weeks.
Although I am a pretty calm person my stress levels are at an all time high (and medication prevents me relaxing with a glass of Leapfrog whiskey)!

Well congratulations on your two Anniversaries but the way you celebrated I really am not sure that was the best celebration I have heard someone have and I am so sorry that you had that fall I hope you are slowly getting better from it
Sounds like the antibiotics are the best for you but I totally understand the side effects we can get from these medications feel worse at times than what we are suffering but after all you have been through I think you will persevere with them and good news about the dressings I am trying to find as many positives as I can in your post
We are all human and even those that are usually relaxed and do not get stressed when faced with all you are facing I am not surprised but sad to hear it is affecting your stress levels and if only you could have a leapfrog whisky to help you relax but let's hope it will be soon when you can have one
I am not big on markets as there is so much rubbish being sold. Two really big ones I have been to with friends (one in East London and the other near Hemel Hempstead) had loads of fake designer wear and fake perfume. Leapfrog sounds an ideal name for dodgy whiskey! 😀
When I spoke with you recently you said it felt like your leg was making an appeal from Death Row! I have tried to think of a better comparison but cannot. I just hope I can stay in Type II reminds for a very long time; Good luck mate! Fingers crossed (my device hasn't the eemoji)
Hi Michael. I was thinking about you this morning and just noticed your post.
You really plod on and get on with it but I'm not surprised your stress levels are through the roof. Fingers crossed for good results. This watching and waiting lark does nothing to help does it. Wishing you well and sending love and hugs. Jan xxx
I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a fall. On top of everything else that must have been a blow for you. I’m not surprised your stress levels are high. I hope you see improvements soon.
Morning Michael - shame you corrected yourself - I rather liked the name leapfrog whisky! But sorry to read of your continuing fight against foot/leg infections. Hopefully the vascular team will be able to do the angioplasty soon and your leg heals enough to stop taking vile antibiotics. Not surprising the stress levels are through the roof - thinking of you.
Sorry to hear about the on-going battles, but you are a seasoned campaigner with a positive attitude so I'm confident you will win in the end. Just wish I could suggest an alternative to the "relaxant", but unfortunately cranberry juice wouldn't quite hit the spot. 😉
So sorry to hear you have more problems, hope things improve for you. I was wondering how you were, I don’t come on this site much now due to the BHF continuing attitude to that we must not mention. Sending you love and a big Hug 🫂
Thanks Michael, sorry it isn't going as well as you would hope. I'm sure that the whiskey helps 🥃🥃😃. Not your usual positivity though Michael, I hope things improve soon. Steve
Hi MichaeljH, sorry to hear you still have ongoing problems. A lot to deal with at the moment but hopefully things will improve with time and you will be able to enjoy the lighter evenings which are on there way with a glass or two . X
Not a bundle of laughs for you, I’m sorry to hear all that. The only bit that made me smile was the Leapfrog whisky-what a brilliant rip off brand name.
I'm really sorry to hear you're still having such a tough time. I really do hope things improve for you soon & that you get your glass of 'leapfrog' 🐸 whiskey ASAP!
Hi MichaelJH, I have a friend, well my brother does lol, anyhow his sister also had blood clot in foot and was induced coma then had a stroke and the blood clot followed, however she did lose her foot sadly but did recover. I'm shocked to learn the effects are still being felt so badly with you. I've seen a few posts but I thought it was PAD from heart disease, my apology for assuming that. I've only been taking part in this form a short time, the last post I saw from was the Christmas quiz I think.I don't understand why this can't be discussed here on the main forum, surely it would benefit everyone to learn this and help others looking for the causes of such an effect. You're the 2nd person I've come across since 2020, and it stands to reason there must be more.
Sorry, got on my soapbox for a second.
I hope the continuation of the antibiotics does its magic and allows healing of your foot, I know silver dressing is amazing, I didn't think they still used it but am glad they do. Please let us all know how you get on with what happens when you're reviewed in clinic.
Ps are you sure you didn't have a wee dram of the leapfrog? Made me smile, it's inspirational how you handle things. Hope you improve as fast as is possible 🤞🙏 x
