I found some Tetley Lemon & Ginger Tea Bags. As I currently have an annoying cough I thought they would be good, especially with a spoonful of honey. I have just read that ginger is not good if you are on blood thinners and aspirin and am a bit worried as to whether I should be drinking it. Any thoughts ?

If you want a professional response talk to your local pharmacist. If you want my opinion, there are far more important things to worry about, so enjoy your Lemon and Ginger tea with honey, just like I enjoy ginger root in home made curries, ginger beer, and a new found delicacy Linghams Ginger Chilli sauce, all along with my daily low dose aspirin.
I actually found some of that same tea—bought it—and love it on a cold winter evening. I had not read what you mentioned about ginger, so I was not aware.
I was told to take a daily low-dose aspirin (81 mg), and sometimes if I am having pain, I may take 2 aspirin. Anyway, I have not noted any concerns after drinking a cup of lemon ginger tea. Maybe I should add that I don’t have it everyday. ❤️
I take anticoagulants and previously warfarin, every time I would drink that tea you mentioned to cure my cold. I drink lemon tea most mornings. I don’t think ginger or lemon affects my medication. I even mentioned it to my cardiologist and my doctors. It’s the best cure for colds as I can’t take the over the counter cough remedies, I was advised by my doctors and pharmacist not to take them.
There was a well publicised death of a gentleman on anti coagulation ( different to blood thinners such as aspirin) AC reduces the clotting process of the blood.I expect aspirin would add to the party too.
This chap drank 6 to 8 very strong home made ginger brew every day for several years, and had internal bleeding of the stomach/ intestines which could not be controlled.
Moderation in all things!
Lemon and ginger tea in normal strength and quantity is fine.
Personally I love ginger and used to make my own ginger beer from a “plant” that my grandma gave me. I no longer drink alcohol so I drink Remedy’s Ginger and lemon kombucha rather than a sparkling wine, also I indulge myself with an expensive tea treat of Brew Tea’s Lemon Ginger which has a real kick to it.
I say enjoy your tea as you will be ingesting a minimal amount of ginger, but as others usually say if in doubt ask a professional.
I'm a bit of a gingeroholic. I've also been on anticoagulants for 8 years and been aware of these claims but I don't worry about having ginger. I have a cup of spiced ginger tea every day after walking the dogs and a couple of pieces of crystallised ginger every evening as a sweet treat. If I have toast for breakfast I will have ginger preserve on it. Haven't noticed any adverse effects so I'll carry on enjoying my ginger treats.
no comments to add on the ginger - but the cough.....? you don't mention what sort of cough but did you know that cough can be a side effect of some medication, ACE inhibitors (Ramipril and other .....prils) can causes a cough, alternatives are available
I'm on warfarin and check my INR regularly. I also drink Twinnings Spiced Ginger Tea once a day and I never noticed any change in my INR when I started drinking it, but I do only drink one teabags worth per day.
I have never heard of a problem with Ginger if on Warfarin. As a family, if one of us has flu like symptoms ginger tea is ordered 😥. Grated ginger is put into water, brought to boil then simmered for 15 minutes, strained and drunk I don't like the taste much but it does work and has never affected my INR readings though this is a once in a while drunk (thankfully 😅)
Thank you for all your posts. I have thought that Ramipril makes me cough a bit but not all the time. My recent cough was I think picked up from my husband/granddaughter so just part of the common cold I guess. Felt a bit wheezy so went to see GP and have been booked in to have an x-ray as a precaution. Feeling better already though a few days on. Post op, now 9 months on, I am feeling much better, it doesn’t hurt very much at all when I cough or sneeze so definitely an improvement. Will probably still drink the lemon/ginger tea as I don’t think there is too much ginger in it. I have found that a spoonful of honey has helped with my cough rather than drinking it with lemon and hot water.
Just as an aside my 18 month old granddaughter always puts a hand on her chest when she coughs, bless her obviously copying nanny 🙂
