These sound like you may be experiencing heart palpitations. They can be felt in the ears and throat. Heart palpitations and ectopics are considered harmless however, if you have been having them over the course of 8 years and you have noticed that they are increasing in frequency, accompanied by other symptoms such as sweating, chest pain, and nausea for example, you need to seek medical attention.

A holter monitor is a good way of determining abnormal heart rhythm disorders which can be arranged by your GP. An echocardiogram can also prove to be useful as it can look at the structure of your heart.

I would suggest making an appointment with your GP as soon as possible to discuss.

All the best.

Tos

I’ve just had a look at your bio and I can see you have a history of anxiety. Anxiety can in fact increase your heart rate. Is your anxiety being treated? X

Touch base with your doctor again. Did they decide to put you on medication for the skipped heart beats?

It may not be heart related but if you let the doctor know that it is interfering with your daily life and making you anxious, they may suggest a positive way forward.

this could be pulsatile tinnitus. Go to the website of Tinnitus UK, the specialist charity, and put “pulsatile” into their search function top left. If this sounds like you, then the advice is to see a medical professional

Tos92 I'm on propranaol Dr's know bout it but they said it's not blood pressure so I'm at a loss

I tend to agree with Happyrosie that inner ear function could possibly be at fault. Tinnitus plagues a lot of people for a numerous variety of reasons. BP is one if it goes up for short or long terms. If you could take your own BP when you experience loud tinnitus that could rule out that problem. Even a serious buildup of ear wax could cause that but it would then be a constant beating instead of periodic. Anxiety is another cause which is worth doing calming meditations when the beating noise occurs.

Purple_1963 have a look at this NHS link. Propranolol can also be used to treat irregular heart rhythms in some cases in addition to anxiety, headaches, and high blood pressure.

I hear my heart beat all the time and have done ever since I had a heart valve replacement. I find it quite reassuring as I know I’m still alive!

sounds like pulsitile tinnitus… I had it a few times with beta blockers I was on for high bp… it’s very stressful… mine went when I came off the bb’s

Hi, I used to hear my heartbeat in my ears too , my consultant advised me to do some gentle neck exercises every day as my neck area was very tight so all the arteries, muscles etc are tight together . I do them regularly and not had a problem since…also helps with my anxiety as it calms me. Hope this helps.

You may possibly have Pulsatile Tinnitus

I have it and was diagnosed a few years ago

see Whooshers.com

and

athospatsalidesmd.com/

Dr patsalides is a world renowned specialist this condition

he diagnosed me after I got my neurologist and regular doctors to order brain CT scan and brain MRI

with and without contrast

i had a video chat and sent copies of my MRI and CT scans via his website portal (after setting an appointment for a future date)

so he could view them when talking to me

he is one of the best!

Not saying you have this condition

but something to at least look at the info and ask your doctor about. mine is due to sigmoid sinus stenosis in my brain and I am a candidate for surgery… Dr Patsalides said mine is a matter of quality of life at the moment and up to me whether I get surgery or just live with it… and if it gets worse I would then need surgery.

not wanting to scare you… just in case it may be something you could have. Happy to answe more if you like. all of the best!

I hear it as well but don't know why?

I'm not a heart patient but when I got what you described, my doctor sent me for blood tests because he thought I was maybe anaemic. Yes I was, as it turned out, with MDS - myelodisplastic syndrome.

I'm getting it again too and I think this time it's just anxiety causing my heart to be a bit harder.

. I get this my upper body pulsates doesn't feel like the usual palpation of the heart in chest, I hear it beat and quite often hear blood flowing in pulsing fashion. I'm not very good at putting it into words. The pulsating upper body is when I lie down the whooshing in ears happens at different times. The gp halved my bisoprolol from 2.5 to 1.25mg twice daily, then just once a day. My pulse was too low and blood pressure. Kind of baffled me as I always associated palpitations with racing heart.I too would speak to your gp if I was you as others have kindly suggested too. Good luck and hope things improve for you :-)

Ps. The sensations are less in occurance compared to what they were for me now since halving the bisoprolol, but only under gp guidance to do so

I hear it more when my heart rate is up or when I've eaten xx

Nothing in particular sets it off in my ears, but the feeling in the upper body is mainly on lying down. My blood pressure and heart rate pretty low too.

I have had this since I was a healthy child - I thought it was normal until others said they dont hear it!

Not long ago I thought there must be a rock concert going on over the hill, such was the loud beat. I was wearing a helmet with ear muffs while brushcutting. I could stil hear it when I took the helmet off. Unless it gets to be faster than a boogie woogie, I ignore it.

I know it sounds silly, but try yawning really loudly, and then a few deep breaths, then yawn again. It cuts the sound down for me. I do look a bit strange when doing it in the supermarket though!

I agree, sounds like pulsatile tinnitus and nothing to be concerned about. I get it on and off, set off by certain medications or supplements, I think it depends on how well my liver is processing something then causing some back up in the lymph circulation. I had read that the lymph system around the ears may contribute to pulsatile tinnitus. Part of lymph's job is to get rid of waste in the body, and in my case it can get backed up evidenced by some swelling in parts of my body too especially my legs/ tightness under the skin. Hope this makes some sense!

I often hear my heartbeat in my ears and neck. I just assumed that it was normal. In hindsight, it is more likely if I am a bit stressed or under the weather. I have had this since childhood and I am now 64. However 2 years ago, I had a prolonged period of tachycardia and was diagnosed with atrial flutter. It hasn't recurred but I do get palpitations and ectopic beats. These are felt in my chest and are completely different to the familiar beat in my head. I take 2.5 mg bisoprolol daily and that has decreased the likelihood of my heart beating too fast but it hasn't changed my intermittent heart beat in my head.
