Heart beat jumping

Hi, just got diagnosed with Hypertension Heart Disease, due to my high blood pressure, with left heart muscle thicker and didn’t get enough responses from the doctor, which I’m trying to get another appointment to have more info.

My question regarding heart jumping,I’ve noticed on my apple watch that my heart jumped from 65 to 102 for 1-2 minutes and then came back to normal, thid is only an exemple, but it happens from 65 jumped to 156 and came back to normal and like this,is only 2-3 times a day, or sometimes 1 . Should I be worried? My blood pressure machine shows me (not all the time, from 6 times maybe 2 times) the small heart like I have irregular heart beat, but I need to add that I did 2 months ago a 24 EGK and nothing found and also a stres test and again all good.

Thank and let me know if I need to speak with my GP regarding this matter.

A sudden onset of symptoms, like you describe, would suggest an arrhythmia. But, since it's lasting for a relatively short time and you don't mention feeling faint or dizzy, I wouldn't stress too much.

Get your GP to organise an appointment with a cardiologist, and ask for a Holter monitor to catch these short bursts of irregular beats. Once you know what you're experiencing, then deal with it accordingly.

Hi ,thank you for replying. No dizzy,no nothing I’ve just noticed because I look on my phone to see and of course after my recent diagnosis and not having a full picture of what is going on. I will try to ask the GP, but asking a GP for this ,I better find a solution and but something that can do it. Even asking to go to private is hard,I don’t know what is happening this days but the doctors really left us hanging and to suffer.

can you recommend something that I can buy, to check myself.I saw a lot of devices on the internet that can check, but they are good,is it worth?

Even people with normal heart rates get extra and missed beats at times but are usually not aware of them. As your occasions are so short I'm guessing that's what you're recording. Have a word with your GP and say what you have said here and ask his opinion.

Hi Jeannie, thank you for replying. I don’t feel anything, only thing that I see is on my Health iPhone app,I will ask my GP and see what she says.

Do you have an oximeter? That’s one of the most simplest and cost friendly ways of checking your heart rate.

Some also have smart watches. I have an Apple Watch which continuously takes readings throughout the day. Although they are sensitive and should not replace your doctor’s advice and tests, they can give you a good indication of heart rate and blood oxygen levels.

Hi Tos92, thank you for your reply. I have a oximeter, but I cannot take it to work and I don’t feel anything, like I said. I have an apple watch that records every day/ every hour and there is where I saw the jumps, you can see on the photo that I’ve attached. I will try to monitor and see what I can do. As you can see in the photo jump from 56 to 106, is this normal, especially with my condition.

is this while you are resting or are you moving about within that hour?

I started to think about it and I don’t recall happening when I was sitting down,I always was doing some, like staying in bed and going to drink water,or at work standing not doing anything and the someone asking to do something I went quickly..

in reply toRazvan_Catalin

I thought that was the case, I took a look at mine and the readings are variations per each hour - mine will shoot up if I go from sitting to doing something, BP can vary like that too. If you look at “show all data” on the Health app you’ll see the reading is taken every 3 to 6 minutes so it’s not a jump but readings over period of time. The picture above then only shows the lowest and highest for that hour not all the readings in between.

some very good advice below fellow members have given. 👍

There could be a number of reasons for this. It can be caused by movement. For example, my sitting heart rate maybe 62 and as soon as I get up and walk a few steps, it can rise to 100 or above. Also from personal experience, heart palpitations can cause this for me. But it’s not just limited to these factors, there are other things such as anxiety for instance. Your cardiologist will be able to rule out the cause. I am unable to say if this is as a result of your condition as it’s not a condition I have a lot of knowledge of unfortunately.

I have an oximeter, as I have Asthma, but I also have a Heart condition, it does give a quick reading, and shows heart rate and oxygen levels.I also have jumping heart beats. This was Monday night, really low heart rate for at least20 minutes, didn’t panic, just relax, then jumped to 90\97 It does make think. Just waiting on appointment in July. Oximeter are good value for money, they are not expensive.x

That is good to know,I’ve checked my wife Health app and notice that she has the same so probably you are right. I’m only looking at the watch, because atbthe moment I don’t have the whole picture of what is whole picture. The cardiologist from UK said I’m fine no need to worry and the one from back home said ‘ you are not gonna have a heart attack and keep you blood pressure down and things will be better and the muscle will get better, but is a for life, the treatment for blood pressure is for life’ . I didn’t take the pills and with intermittent fasting, cut the sugar, salt and continue my workouts it drop from 155/95 to 129/83 in a week(but I will keep monitoring to see if this life changes is gonna help on the long run.

So I don’t have a full picture unfortunately and didn’t have time to stay in my country to do extra checks.

Morning, I suggest you see your GP. Explain what you describe as you may have developed an arrhythmia.. If that is the case, you may need blood thinners.

If by any chance you notice unexplained weight loss, fatigue or pain around your kidney(s) get checked asap. I will not go into the reason why as you have not mentioned those symptoms.

Kind regards,

Andy

Hi Andy,, I did a abdominal echocardiogram and everything was OK,the right kidney was swollen a little bit(doctor said no worries) and a full blood test -including a D-Dimer ,Troponin Test and another 2 for heart, liver etc full count all OK,the only thing that showed slight up was Hematocrit 50.3%-higher , Neutrophil-43.6 % -lower. I don’t have weight loss, fatigue not that I could say-I feel tired after a day of work, but cannot make the difference and pain around kidney no,I didn’t notice any. What blood test should I do to take this out of my list. Hope my GP will listen to me and take into consideration and look for a reason.

Hi, I lost my sister in law yesterday at aged 59yrs by a few days. She had an arrhythmia accompanied by lower back pain, 3 stone loss of weight over short period of time and fatigue. How she worked 13 hr shifts is beyond me. Transpired undiagnosed kidney cancer, the tell tale signs being what I describe. Diagnosed and dead within the same day. That’s the only reason I mention it as she was ‘supposedly’ under the care of a local hospital and bizarrely, (beyond my understanding) had undergone Xray and a CT scan with contrast dye although nothing was detected?

sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your brother. This is what is the most annoying thing, that causes mye anxiety seeing that I have to struggle to get a proper answer. Why is this needs to happen, why we are turn around and not actually listening with what the pacient is saying.I hope you and your brother get through all this , even if I don’t know you personally , big hug to you and your family and lots of love .

Thank you Razvan_Catalin, it was my wife’s sister. Much appreciated. Regarding anxiety and waiting, I think that’s a lottery as to which doctor you get and the hospital in general. I always do my own research, read studies on google etc. It helps to stop you being ‘batted off’ by the odd doctor. Best regards mate. Andy

I have an enlarged heart, so opposite to you. My bp was very high and am.in bisoprolol now which has bought it down. My pulse is extremely erratic like yours it goes very high to low in seconds.I've had echos, holters, 24 hour bus the lot. Waiting for another echo. They say my heart is damaged. I would go back to your Dr but write dome questions down first and don't leave until you fully understand the answers.

Hi ,I’m really sorry to hear that, said that we got in this century with the technology in the world and we have to struggle to find what exactly is wrong with us,and time flies buy and things go worst and worst. If I didn’t went back home to do an echocardiogram,I will probably wouldn’t find out that I need to control my blood pressure,no sugar,no salt and etc .

Things will probably get worst,I’ve received and email from the hospital with some extra informations and waiting for the phone call to make an appointment when the doctor is available. This is what they said:

-Mitral valve - Normal opening

-Aortic valve - Tricuspid, Normal opening

-Tricuspid valve - Normal

-Pulmonary valve- Normal

-Contractility : Good for walls, without disturbance of segmental kinetics

 -Pericardium - Normal

Conclusions:

-without signs of overload for right cavity

 -without disturbance of segmental kinetics

-Heart cavities normal sizes

-Systolic function - normal-

No pulmonary hypertension

-Left ventricular hypertrophy

-Systolic dysfunction delayed relaxation

The last 2 are the bad ones,I can understand the first one, but every where I look regarding Systolic dysfunction shows a lot of information, the grade 1.2.3.4 ,then is Systolic dysfunction, Systolic dysfunction failure and then I’ve read that Systolic dysfunction means that the heart wall is harder/Stiff which means the first one Left ventricular hypertrophy .. is it 2 condition or is only one condition that is name different,I don’t understand.

Thanks,

I wish I could help you but not sure of the answer. Best thing to do is make a routine appointment with GP. Write the questions down and get clarification. I wish I did that. Enlarged heart is too big an umbrella, I still don't fully understand why, how and consequences of this.I wish you the very best of luck.
