Are you on any medication Bucky?
I am on 5mg Ramipril for BP It’s frustrating that Dr will see me but Cardiologist won’t
He must know best !!
It’s been going on for 18 months
Do you feel ill when your heart is at 35bpm, how often is it that low and how do you know ? Has an ECG shown that rate. I think one that low would make me feel very odd. Our hearts can miss or add beats, even people with no heart problems at all have that happen and I just wonder if you are recording the heart missing a beat.
Miguel Indurain who won the Tour de France multiple times had a resting heart rate in the 20s.
Well Maisiemoo21 I am almost 73 and I too have a slow to very slow HB at times, my normal resting HB is 54, however that can drop down to 26 to 30, I also suffer from palpitations where sometimes my heart will miss up to 5 beats before doing 5 or so normal beats before missing again, but very few medics are at all concerned about this in my case.
You don't say what other problems you are experiencing, if indeed you are and at our times in life the dear old ticker can start messing us about to a greater or lesser extent. So in your case may I suggest you remain vigilant and should you start experiencing any slight to severe chest pains then go and see your GP with some urgency, but otherwise just take life as it comes and breath very deeply and slowly
And how do you feel when you get these episodes of slow heart rate? Do you feel like fainting or blacking out?
It might be just how you are then. As far as they are not giving you any symptoms or discomfort. Make sure you keep an eye if things change. I was having sudden heart rate slow downs, which would make men nearly faint. That's another story from yours though I guess... I had a congenital condition which was all related to
Heart rate monitors struggle to give accurate rates if you have an irregular heat beat, and can quite occasionally be way off.
That being said, when I first went on meds my rate was often at 35, and like you I was worried. Over time, perhaps because of dosage changes or simply because of time, my rate now rarely drops below 50.
My consultant told me to stop looking at my heart rate monitor and to go by how I feel. Hopefully yours will say the same.
I have Atrial Fibrillation which is a irregular heartbeat, I can be as low as 35 bpm then five minutes later it’s 180 bpm without doing exercise. As long as you are feeling fine when it’s low, should be no problem, but I would keep a eye on it.
