heart beat
Hello
A normal heart beat is usually between 60 to a 100
I am not sure if age has anything to do with what is normal
So if it is dropping as low as 40 then I would speak with your Doctor they may ok with that but it is always good to get it checked out
Let us know how you get on x
Some heart medications give you a low heart rate, and some people have it naturally. Mine goes down to 45 when resting because of the medications I am on. But definitely worth just asking your doctors about it - (I did) - if nothing else for your peace of mind.
thank you, as I told BeKind, I have moderate HF, CKD EFGR 31, permanent A/Fib/Flutter. Take Apixaban. Bisoporil , Rampiril twice daily. Blood tests every few weeks but have to ask for results at surgery and it appears if I don’t have pain or am more breathless than usual then I am ok!HB 39 yesterday!!!
It has really surprised me how low is ok - never would have guessed that before my heart issues. 39 sounds very low 😳 But if the doctors say it is ok then it should be fine.
Take care of yourself 👍🏻
As others have said it varies from person to person but check with your GP if worried. My minimums lower than yours (as per attached) but feel fine!
When I first started taking Bisoprolol my heart rate was going pretty low. I asked GP how low was too low, and she said it all depended on how I felt.I would certainly have a conversation with your GP about it, but in the meantime you could give the BHF nurses a call on 0300 330 3311.
Hello Haggishead. 40 is low. But it depends how you are feeling when it is that low. I have ckd as well and when mine went down to 40. I was given an ecg. And told I needed a pacemaker. That was done more urgently when my heart rate dropped to 28. But I still felt OK. But everyone else was panicking about it. Hope you get some answers. Brian
I experience bradycardia, a low heart rate from time to time. My heart rate can drop into its 50’s and 40’s when I’m resting however, my medication is most likely the culprit affecting this therefore, it doesn’t overly concern me unless I am being symptomatic with it.
Any serious concerns should be taken up with your GP.
All the best.

If you are concerned, get it checked.
How are you checking it?
I wouldn't rely on things like oximeters, but I do trust my blood pressure monitor.
A radial (wrist) pulse is reliable or maybe somewhere else if you can't feel it there.
Your measurements might be normal for you and don't look particularly unusual.
The time to worry is if you start to get symptoms associated with low blood pressure or low blood oxygen, like falls, faints, lightheadedness.
Another red flag is if your pulse doesn't increase significantly with activity.
I guess you don't do triathlons, but anything like stair climbing from sitting would do or your GP could get you on a treadmill
Hi Haggishead. Are you taking a beta blocker? I’m on bisoprolol and my resting heart rate is around 54. Used to be 72. My cardiologist says (when I asked him why I had to take it) ‘ you have two clear arteries now and we want them to stay that way!’ I’m 79, HA just over 2 years ago. So I’m no expert but I’d say consider your meds.
