Hello! I am just after seeing if anyone has had any issues or can recommend a company to get life insurance cover. I had aortic valve replacement 10 years ago and am subject to yearly checks. No issues at the moment but at some point in the next few years I will need another valve as I currently have a pigs valve. The next one will be a mechanical which should last me the rest of my life. Apart from that no other health issues. Any recommendations or similar issues?

I, don't know your family history, nor what kind of life assurance you need. But I used to be a medical underwriter and have accepted a similar proposition as a risk, though with additional premiums.

You’ll need to find a broker I think and ask them to try out the market. If this is for a large sum your broker must stress that you just want one policy with the best rates, because an insurer will ask their re-assurers to assess the risk and the reassures (in their turn) may ask the rest of the market, so the market needs to know the amount of risk being presented to them.

there may be insurers who might take the risk but they don’t tend to be the big names. Might be specialist insurers but as already said by others may need a broker to search based on risk.

I recently contacted reassured.co.uk - I’d say worth a call. They might suggest a specialist medical insurer who might take a look. All cases are individual so can’t say will be for you and also depends on what you are after and all the varied factors they look at.

👍

Phil , I use Aviva , I travel when I can including trips to NZ to see my son . I have Permanent AF , had valve repair and Rheumatoid arthritis. It is essential to declare everything , even occasional high BP. Safe travels.

Aviva! They're very good when it comes to heart related issues, I had a mild heart attack in Dec 21 and had one stent , I chucked a claim in to aviva and a few months later they paid out, paid my mortgage off!

Did you take out the insurance before or after your heart / stent? Think it’s cheaper and easier pre heart issues, afterwards it’s much more difficult but dependent on health issue.

Sorry, yes it was way before, but aviva are very good with heart attacks as they've lowered the claim threshold
