Travel Insurance recommendation?

Hi there, I have a week holiday booked for Spain, leaving U.K. next Saturday 11/6-18/6.

Looking at quotes for travel insurance.

I had an angiogram and one stent fitted November 2021. Since told I have a moderately leaky aortic valve. Just need an annual echo to check if it progresses (next Echo due March 2023). Also have an under active thyroid (diagnosed twenty years ago).

The cheapest price I’ve seen is £129.00. Via CompareTheMarket.

Just wondered if any of you have received a great quote in the past and would like to share company with me?

Of course I will proceed with this price if I cannot find anything more competitive. Just thought I’d ask before proceeding.

Huge thanks all, Sal 😊

Sal, that sounds a bit expensive to me, but of course things may have moved on since I needed it. A few tips from one of our AD groups:

medicaltravelcompared.co.uk/

Also see

moneysavingexpert.com/insur...

Particular companies other people I know have used:

travelinsurance4medical.co.uk/

explorerinsurance.co.uk/

staysure.co.uk/

erv.co.uk/travel-insurance/...

Other names mentioned are Staysure and All Clear.

Make sure you know who is underwriting the policy and who would handle a claim, then check them out on Trustpilot.

I was very glad I made sure my "under observation" enlarged aorta was definitely covered, since I dissected whilst in NZ, and the company paid up ok (in spite of some poor reviews). I think it was Explorer I used back then.

Cheers Cliff! I already had a quote for Stsysure £135. .I got a quote from all the others you kindly linked. TravelIndurance4Medical came out most competitive at £85 economy single trip.

Cheers 👍👍👍

I should think for a weeks holiday go with the cheapest as what's the chances of you being ill in a week. Just my opinion. Hope you get off OK with the chaos at present and have a great time. Brian

Hi. I’ve had quotes from various companies including staysure, all clear, navigator. They all cater for people with existing health conditions. All clear appear willing to cover people who are still waiting for treatment etc. my quotes are all close to £1000 for a year but I have a long list of health problems. Travel insurance is expensive but I’d rather pay for decent cover than be stranded abroad without it and having to crowdfund to get home. If you do a search on this site it should bring up all the previous posts about holiday insurance. There will be loads. Enjoy your holiday!

Huge thanks! I got quotes using the links Cliff provided. Brought the price down considerably! I love how we all help each other on this site 🥰

Is that for one trip only ? I am guessing it must be as it seems very cheap.

Yes it was for one trip. This was my first time arranging Travel Insurance since my cardiac issues were first identified. Thanks to the links Cliff put up, it brought my price to £85 👍

No problem hope you have informed them all your health details. Enjoy your holiday

Yes I declared everything, my angioplasty, the one heart stent, the narrowed arteries, the leaky aortic valve, the swelling in ankles & feet, the pending investigations (annual echo’s), the medication to lower blood pressure, cholesterol, my under active thyroid and slipped discs.

It all went on there…..I wouldn’t ever put myself in a situation where something might go wrong and I find myself without adequate cover abroad. I’m happy to pay whatever I have to pay for peace of mind. However I’m also mindful to shop around and find a company who are recommended by Trustpilot but who offer a more competitive price.

The one factor that brought the price down? The price cap from ten million in healthcare to three million. Here’s hoping that during that one week vacation, should I require emergency medical care, that my bill does not exceed three million pounds.

TravelInsurance4Medical (one of the links Cliff put up) turned out to offer the most competitive price. 5 stars on Trustpilot too 👍.

Stay sure we’re an extra £50.

I use Staysure who are competitively priced. I've just paid around that for Switzerland for 19 days total. I have declared everything as you must too !

Thanks. I wouldn’t not declare everything 👍

Emergency health care and treatment would be covered by the free government GHIC card or its predecessor the EHIC card. I have personally used it in the past for a nine day stay, and 2 angioplasty sessions with stents inserted, in an Austrian hospital. Only paid 9€ per day for food. This was to treat a failed quad CABG.

You might prefer to pay for the comfort of having cover for lost or delayed baggage or flight cancellation despite your airline being responsible for these.

Hope it all goes smoothly.

Ah yes great point! Yes I have one of those new health cards that replaced the previous one as we flew out to Spain last September. They have the Union Jack 🇬🇧 all over it.

Hadn’t thought of that. Ah well, I’ve paid the £85 so I’m going away as covered as I need to be. Worth it for the things you’ve listed. Peace of mind is everything 👍

That really is a great price. My mum is travelling to Greece next week and her insurance cost £55. She’s 75. I’m 45 and mine was £30 more expensive lol! Heart health and all that 🙈

Huge thanks 🥰

l go to Spain 3 months at a time and only ever use my GHIC fortunately l have only needed it once. the state hospitals are wonderful here and certainly on par if not better than NHS. l l need treatment l will be covered the only thing not covered would be if l needed to be flown home but l have researched this this and it's not a fortune if l needed to be flown home. l stay in a house and not a hotel so this helps. obviously my option wouldn't suit everybody

Just to say my son had cover with Staysure. Declared everything. He had a skiing accident in January. They approved the claim but still haven't paid up! He's 3000 out of pocket which he had to pay for an air ambulance. It's impossible to get through to them on the phone without a long time in hold. A look around on Internet shows some very poor reviews.
