diagnosed with cardiovascular disease

in June I was diagnosed as above. Ct coronary angiogram showed a coronary calcium score of 397?

with moderate proximal LCX stenosis and mild diffuse LAD stenosis.

I get some days when my heart feel heavy in chest with some fast heart beats a little breathless but can still climb several flights of stairs As per usual… well three sets.

Does anyone here know the severity of this diagnosis. The cardio did explain to me what the outcome of the tests were with diagrams etc . But was surprised to see it written on my patient record as CVD.

treated with statins and aspirin daily. I am a fairly active senior to overweight etc

does anyone have a similar diagnosis without anything other major health issues

Be grateful for feed back of anyone else’s experience

Elly in Oz.

Hi,

I also have CVD but with one stent.

My prof in my pathology lecture said everyone has some sort of fatty streaks from birth that progresses to atherosclerosis and stenosis.

Statins help to stabilise and possibly shrink plaque to a tiny degree, especially atorvastatin and rosuvastatin at very high doses.

I have found with health issues, it is a time to reflect and heal, make healthy improvements in my life, physically and mentally.

thanks I know there a lot worse off than me. Just hoping that these statins and aspirin make a difference?

I had a similar diagnosis 4 years ago. I have occasional angina and breathlessness on exertion, but an angio scan just showed less than 25% calcification in one area. No intervention required. My cholestrol levels were satisfactory but I have family history and my cardiologist prescribed aspirin and statins as a precaution ( it is an anti- inflammatory as well as being a drug for high cholestrol) .

I get an annual MOT with full blood test .... just waiting for latest results as I write.

thanks Elliebath. Yes I’ve been getting breathless episodes which come on for no good reason unless you count a cup of coffee and a relaxing time in a cafe as a reason? My calcium score was 397. Not sure what that means? I know I have a moderate and mild stenosis.

Good to hear from you anyway

Hi Elly

I think I have similar to you. I had a CT angiogram a few months ago which showed a calcium score of 345. Also a Echocardiogram which showed some mitral valve regurgitation. I haven’t seen a cardiologist, just my GP. He told me “it’s business as usual as far as I’m concerned “ and prescribed statin and aspirin. I also take a beta blocker for ectopic beats. I am 66 and have always been healthy. It was such a huge shock and I still struggle with anxiety about it all. I am slowly coming to terms with it. Keep taking the tablets and enjoy every day.

thanks Jess. I was mostly healthy till I hit mid 60s, when got a diagnosis of Leukemia. Been thru the mill with that. Had a great run in remission. Still am more or less!? Then Late 70s and I’m getting all sort of issues. I’ve had heart rhythm issues on and off since my 20s. Nothing diagnosed. So yes a bit of a shock to hear those words CVD!! Keep taking the tablets exactly.

Still active…. Elly
