Waiting time for CABG

Hi.

For anyone here who has had CABG surgery at the Royal Brompton, roughly how long following your pre-assessment appointments did you have to wait for your surgery?

I know these things vary but it would be useful (reassuring) to get a vague idea how much longer I may have to wait for surgery?

Welcome to the forum.

I’m sure someone using the Brompton will reply......or you could ring the hospital and speak to the Cardiac Dept. Get some idea of where you are on their list. Worth a try!

Hi & welcome to the forum, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience out here.

I had a CABG at the Brompton 2 years ago.

At the time the wait i believe was about 3 months from when i was put on list and first saw surgeon, which sounds a long time but in reality if your symptoms deteriorate they will get you in sooner.

I was still working on reduced hours but anything i felt was deteriorating i went to my GP who, if they felt it was serious enough would update the Surgeons team.

I also managed to get hold of the surgeons secretary number and rang her if things were deteriorating and she would pass it on so they could discussthings at their meeting.

PS, the nurse who does the pre-assesment is also another person to ring if need advice.

Thanks Charlie, great advice and much appreciated. Hope you're fairing well after your CABG.

Am in Basingstoke so not too far away. Got my first pre-op appointment next Tuesday so will have a chat with them as my angina has been getting worse of late.

I am also in Basingstoke,so if you wanted to meet up for a chat i would be happy to, but understand if you want to stay anonymous. i had the friendship of a couple of guys when i was going through it, one had had a CABG and one was waiting for his and we all found it very helpful all round.

I found the whole experience not as bad as my imagination led me to believe.

keep your self active, you will need your core muscles a lot at the start for moving roumd as you can'tused your arms and upper body for pulling your self up in bed and from the chair.

you will go through a roller coaster emotionally after the op, that par for the course, due to what you have been through, the anaesthetic working its way out of you body, frustration at not being able to do what you want to do, among other things.

heart health you should feel so much better from the start, it is a life changing operation that the surgeons are doing every day.

after about 6 weeks or so you will get an appointment back at the BNHHT to do rehab and that is really helpful and the staff know their stuff and can answer any concerns there or from this forum.
