Would anyone know whether the NHS has set targets for heart bypass surgery? Researching online there appears to be guidelines for non-urgent elective surgery giving examples of cataract and hip replacement surgeries which should be conducted within an 18 week period. I also read on an NHS website that heart bypass surgery should be completed ideally within 12 weeks from the initial referral. Could anyone clarify these guidelines/statements and provide experience of waiting times. I live in the Greater Manchester area.
Kind regards
J

I can’t comment about other areas but I was first diagnosed with Angina last December in the Merseyside area. I had an angiogram in February & was told 3 arteries were blocked or partially blocked, too severe for stents, so I was referred to Broad Green for a CABG x 3, I saw a surgeon there at the end of March & had my op on April 19th. I think the wait for CABG May depend on how serious your condition is, mine was fairly serious although not urgent.
My husbands was marked as urgent and he waited just over 8 weeks to see the surgeon then he has his preop next week, so he,s been just over 3 months up till now but hopefully he'll be done just after pre op x
Hi there, as with all waiting lists it will depend on the level of severity, but all areas will have their targets and these targets will be set on the average patient turn around. 12 weeks from initial referral sounds very similar to most areas
